FROM YOUR PASTOR
The First Family Newsletter of the First Baptist Church Owenton, Kentucky
“To be found faithful as God’s people.”
August 2017
“Praise Him, Praise Him……”
I must repeat David’s words as found in Psalm 109:30: “I
will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; Yes, I will
praise Him among the multitude.”
This is my exact sentiment as I reflect on our summer. What
a joy as we took our largest group yet on an International
Mission Trip to Haiti and then returned to an awesome
week of VBS here at home. We have also had a record turn-
out for the Children’s Summer Program, and they will have
a huge finale during the 10:50 a.m. worship service on Au-
gust 13 as they present “Down by the Creek Bank.” Our
youth were involved in another great Fuge Camp at Ridge-
crest and what a wonderful day of celebration on our 150th
Church Anniversary. My mouth is filled with praise to our
God for His manifold blessings.
The month ahead will for many mean returning to a regular
schedule in light of school kicking off on Wednesday, Au-
gust 13. Let’s pray for all our teachers, students and espe-
cially the parents of our Kindergartners and high school sen-
iors! As you and your family return to a bit of normalcy be
sure that attention is given to your faith walk if you find it
has been neglected or that signs of drifting are present.
Daily devotions and weekly corporate worship really do
make a difference in a Christian’s life. Forfeited peace and
joy are the profound consequences of seeking to live with-
out these most vital disciplines.
I love you folks and look forward to serving Him with you
in these months ahead.
Blessings,
Bro. Brad

MUSIC AND MEDIA NEWS
Summer has come and gone and school is about to kick off and for some of you parents I’m sure it could not be fast enough! For students on the other hand, probably not so much. For me this sum-mer has been a great one full of mission trips, camps, and hanging out with friends and family. Oh, and one more minor thing happened. I got engaged! Already you all have been great, Ashley and I want to thank each and every one of you for the support, encouragement, and advice. I don’t know if you have had a great summer and are dreading the back to school season or if you are itching to go back. But I do know that no matter how you feel about this time there is a huge opportunity in front of each of us. Our middle and high school students as well as some of the younger kids, have been learning about and experiencing God this summer and they are about to go back into their schools where there are hundreds of kids that do not know Jesus. These students will have the opportunity to either hide what they have seen and heard or spread it. This is something we have been working all summer toward and I’m excited to see how these experiences can affect our stu-dents and schools! “Don’t let anyone despise your youth, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, and in purity.” -1 Timothy 4:12 It’s not just the student’s job to do these things however. As leaders and parents and grandpar-ents of these kids we need to set an example for them by spreading what we’ve experienced in our lives as well. We need to show them that we are willing to step out of our comfort zones as well and be bold in our faith. “Start a youth out on his way, even when he grows old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 Again, I hope everyone’s summer has been great but now it’s time to get back to it. Let’s make it a great year! Blessings, Ben
YOUTH AND FAMILY LIFE
It’s hard to believe we are already in the month of August! Summer has flown by and with it some great memo-
ries. From camps to VBS, to mission trips and our 150th Homecoming Celebration, this summer has been won-
derful. Thank you to all of the volunteers who made these things possible! Even though summer has been filled
with all these amazing opportunities and memories, I can’t help but be even more excited for what the upcoming
months have in store.
First and foremost, choir starts back this month!! We will resume our regular rehearsal schedule starting August
13 at 5:00 p.m. This is your chance to join the choir and not be worried about coming in during the season. This
is a fresh start to the choir year and we would love to have you be a part of our choir family. Reading music is not
a requirement! You just have to have a heart to sing praises to the Lord and be a part of this great ministry. Choir
is open to ages 10-110. We meet Sunday evenings 5:00-6:30 p.m. in the Carla G. Pennington Choral Suite. Come
be a part of this worshipful ministry.
Lastly, we have added an assistive listening system to our current sound system. If you have trouble hearing dur-
ing our worship services, you will be able to pick up a pack and use the attached ear speaker to hear the service
clearer. There will be a station set up at the welcome center so you can pick up your pack. We hope this will help
alleviate the stress of not being able to hear during our services.
Peace and Blessings,
Bro. Chuck
