The Day I Decided To Do Nothing The only reason I decided to do nothing is because I needed a break from my hectic daily routine which included waking up as early as 7.30 in the morning, heading to school, staying back for after-school activities, completing stacks of homework and finally going to bed as late as 11 at night or sometimes at midnight. As you can see, repeating this routine can somehow cause stress and pressure to a student. To relieve the tension, I took the opportunity to do nothing during the holidays. “Nothing” is not an absolute but a relative term. “Nothing” can mean unplanned ways of spending the day rather than staying idle. Instead of waking up by my usual time, I woke up at around 10 in the morning. I made sure I had enough sleep to ensure that I had sufficient energy for the rest of the day. I had breakfast prepared by Mother, after showering. It was one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever eaten to date. First thing’s first, I switched on my computer, connected it to the Internet and opened my e-mail inbox. I got rid of all the junk and forwarded messages and replied to some legitimate ones. Once I’ve done that, I signed in my messenger to find my friends online. We chatted for a while about the day’s weather and discussed about our holiday plans. I surfed my usual websites, wrote on my Live Journal, commented one some posts, played some games, updated my networking sites and so on. Then, I logged off. It was already noon when I switched on the television. Unfortunately for me, there wasn’t anything on that interest me. I popped a DVD-disc into the DVD player and continued watching one of my favourite shows, Supernatural. When I finished the last episode on the disc, it was time for lunch. After lunch, I relaxed by listening to my favourite tunes on my iPod. I even finished off the novel I’ve been meaning to finish.

The Day I Decided To Do Nothing

The only reason I decided to do nothing is because I needed a break from my hectic daily routine which included waking up as early as 7.30 in the morning, heading to school, staying back for after-school activities, completing stacks of homework and finally going to bed as late as 11 at night or sometimes at midnight.

In the evening, I helped Mother prepare dinner. Since I’m not much of a chef, I played the role of the assistant. I chopped vegetables, minced meat, washed the dishware and cutlery and cooked rice while Mother was busy cooking. When she was done, I helped serve the dishes to the dinner table. We waited for Father to get back from work and we dined together. Later, Father surprised us with four tickets to catch the premier of Transformers 2: Revenge of The Fallen. My brother and I were ecstatic and quickly hopped into the car.

The movie was indeed incredible and so was my day. Although it wasn’t productive, but it was a once in a blue moon treat. It’s not everyday you get to this. By the time we reached home, it was already quite late. I threw myself on my bed and before I knew it, the sun was already shining so bright that I had to strain my eyes to see.
