Upgrade quality education in public schools is one of DepEds thrust. In order to achieve it, schools have to undergo evaluation in various dimensions and MES could not be spared from it. September 23, 2013 was a date to be remembered by MES personnel for it was the long awaited day the district evaluators pronounce their verdict after going over a series of interviews, snooping over records, cross examining and announcing their areas of concern as to what should be improved and attached as evidences. Our school was lucky indeed during that day since our external stakeholders were present for scrutinization in the person of the Barangay Chairwoman Rosemary Lorna V. Uy, GPTA Vice-President, SGC Secretary and Religious Group Chairman Susan Crisologo which added points under community involvement. We were grateful that the district evaluators rating mounted to LEVEL II which interpretation means that MES is in the DEVELOPING stage.
The DALE Staffers headed by its Editor-in-Chief Reymart Kabingue attended the Division Presscon on August 30, 2013 held at East City Central School. This years theme Campus Journalism and Transformational Leadership is the focus of the said event. Different areas such as editorial writing, feature writing, news writing, editorial cartooning, copy reading and headline writing both in English and Filipino were participated by our staffers. Lucky enough for among the various participants from both public and private schools, LORRAINE AKIAT, a grade VI pupil garnered third place in Pagsulat ng Balita which qualified her to the regional level.
Ana Escobar, a grade VI teacher of MES emerged as Second Placer after defending her Action Research during the 1st Regional 2013 SBM General Assembly Cum Education Celebration and Research Congress last December 12, 2013.
Congrats Maam Ana!
Samantha Marquez, a grade III pupil and Nathalie Cinco, grade VI pupil won the district and division level for Science and Math quiz bee held September this year besting five other schools of West I district and nine other schools of the Division of Cagayan de Oro City giving them the edge to qualify for the regional level for the next month.
Congratulations for
making our school proud of you!

December 9, 2013 was a day to remember for MES stakeholders. It was the day that West I Supervisor, Principals and administrators visited the school for the Annual Evaluation. All areas were evaluated from curriculum, personnel, facilities, pupils development, etc. The purpose of the said evaluation was to monitor the salient strong points and recommend measures for improvement for the areas needing improvements. Overall, MES receive positive feedbacks from the evaluators.
XU goes to MES For the seventh year the

MES TEACHERS
ATTEND INSET (by Camille B. Marquez)
Once you choose the teaching profession, the word REST is not included in your vocabulary for even on Saturdays and Sundays not to mention election day, services have to be rendered. As change speeds all things on this planet with the onset of digital age so goes teaching strategies and techniques needed for the present. Thus, on October 24-31, 2013 MES teachers undergo in-service training on updating the scope and sequence of each subject plus the construction of TOS and reliable questions for the third grading. After all the hectic schedule, the teachers also had a fun day as they participated in Sportfest activities bringing home the bacon as Champion for Cheerdance betting the other five schools of West I district. So who says teachers work and work only?

A 5-day Brigada Eskwela
from May 20-25, 2013 was participated by MES stakeholders in the person of its parents, pupils, teachers, staff and other volunteers. It was started by a motorcade around Macanhan to invite stakeholders to volunteer for the general clean-up of the school to make it ready come start of classes by June 3.
Generally, it was successful on the part of those who willingly participated but still the spirit of volunteerism for community service has to be instilled in the minds and hearts of everyone.(by A.Morden)
MES HOLDS SATURDAY
NAT REVIEW In an effort to increase the NAT mean for grades 3 and 6 pupils, the school programmed six Saturdays from January to February as review and mock tests as preparation for the coming NAT by March. Teachers from different grade levels were tapped to do the review bearing in mind the mastery of the basic concepts and skills in the different subject areas. (by D. Elesterio)
ANTI-BULLYING CAMPAIGN In a joint effort by the
DepEd and PNP, a campaign on ANTI-BULLYING was initiated thru a series of awareness talk by an invited speaker in the person of SPO4 Rogelio Q. Borromeo Jr. here at MES.
The pupils were made aware of the background of the Anti-Bullying Law, where it could happen, how does it happen, who does it and what one should do if he/she is a victim. It was found out during the session that some of the pupils were victims of bullying themselves.
Hopefully after this awareness campaign more pupils will be aware of how they could avoid circumstances dealing with bullies. (by C. Malagamba)

Editorial
TO FIGHT OR
NOT TO FIGHT Bullying is when someone
keeps doing or saying negative things to another person. Some of these are by calling them unpleasant name tags, saying or writing nasty things about their personality.
Bullying is when someone keeps doing or saying things to overpower another who is weaker physically or behaviorally. Some forms of bullying are negative naming, saying or writing nasty things about them, snubbing, threatening or making them scare or uncomfortable, taking or damaging their things or kicking them or hitting or making things they wouldnt do under normal circumstances.
Had any of these happened to you already? If so, how did you react to it? What did you do? Were you one of those who just say let them be so no more troubles happen again or are you one of those brave enough to fight them or report them to the proper authorities for proper measure to reprimand or put a stop to their activities-that of harming physically or psychologically.
Bullying happens often in school or its premises. Our school has taken measures such as the information campaign on the said topic by integrating it in the course of the lessons plus inviting speaker on the said topic to expound it more.
Even with the passing of the anti-Bullying Law full cooperation of all concern has not yet reach to its fullest as some people thought of it as part of growing up and a way for young people to defend themselves and stand up on their own. On the other hand, it can make young people feel lonely and frightened. Further, it makes them feel unsafe to mingle with others and to go out always thinking that another unpleasant event might meet them on the way from people who think they are better and stronger than others. Self confidence degrades thus making them guilty of something hidden or unforeseen even within oneself. Have you ever bullied someone? Think about why you did it and what were you feeling at that time. If you are sometimes a bully, try to find other ways to make yourself feel good not to the expense of hurting others. Remember, its best to treat others the way you should be treated. Have you ever been bullied not only once? Think why these people continue to do the same to you. Stop them! Think of the outcome if you fight or not fight the bullies!

CAMPUS
JOURNALISM
AT MES
Campus journalism is a form of journalism practiced by students or in our case aspiring pupil writers. The content to be covered typically touches on issues related to school life. In our school we started campus journalism after attempting to come up with a small publication that is THE DALE. Articles from news to features and others will be written by pupils themselves. Lucky for those who join the editorial staff of the publication for here their creative and critical thinking will be developed. It gives them the social responsibility of being involve in any issue that concerns them. In short, publishing THE DALE at MES will offer the young elementary pupils of the opportunity to practice the basics of campus journalism skills. (R. Kabingue)

DAYAG AND ORANG CROWN AS MASTER
& MISS UN13 Alther Dayag & Mae Amor Orang both grade V pupils bested other 700 MES pupils during the search for Master & Miss United Nations 2013 last October 25, 2013. They were honored thru a program prepared for them featuring different production numbers and dances from different continents by each grade level. The school principal did the honor to crown Dayag & Orang who will reign for a year. Proceeds of the said project will be for water connection of the entire school as one of its major problem is the lack of water for drinking and hygiene purposes. (by S. Seriritan)
MES PUPILS HONORS
TEACHERS
My Teacher, My Hero!
No one has reached the heights of his/her profession if he has not passed into the hands of a mentor or tutor. If one seeks for knowledge formally the journey will be driven by these mentors. Thus, to give honor to teachers worldwide for their unique job description, October 5 is declared as WORLD TEACHERS DAY with worthwhile activities that give their molded individuals the chance to thank them simply.
MES celebrated Teachers Day with a motorcade around Macanhan and a program especially made for them. During the program tokens, hugs and kisses were accorded to the teachers from their pupils.
After the program simple snacks were partaken by the teachers donated by the GPTA. In the afternoon, the teachers pampered themselves with an informal sportfest to unwind and at the same time to exercise physically.
Let us remember then that the best teachers teach from the heart, not from the book. Our salute to our dear teachers! (by N. Mimbisa)

District meet Sports Event
On September 12, 2013, the different schools of West I district converge together to join the District Meet with chess, marathon race, volleyball, Table Tennis and basketball as sports events. Winners of the event competed in the division level so all the athletes performed in their best but like any other game only one will rise to be the champion as in the case of MES who garnered the championship in badminton for district level. (by C. Talines)
MES TEACHERS CHEERDANCING?
Who said that cheerdancing with all its death defying moves are for the young ones only? Such concept was proven wrong by the teachers of West I District with the MES teachers participating during the Sportsfest for Teachers at KM 5 ES on September 25, 2013. Inspite of their ages and body figures, MES teachers proved that even at this time of their career they can enjoy and experience what they coached their pupils. To the Red and White team KUDOS for a unique showmanship and for being the CHAMPIONS! (by C. Vertudazo)

THE PINK PLANET IS
JUST A BABY
NASA scientists added that the color of the gas giant indicates its age which means it is still just a baby. Its glow comes literally from the heat of its latest formation. With its far distance from its own sun-like star, it will change your view on how the planets are formed. Hence, if you are thinking if it is even possible to become the next target for odd vacation destination Then forget about it. Its exact sizzling temperature is 460 degrees Fahrenheit or 230 degrees Celsius. The question is, when will the pink planet be acknowledged in science classes in the near future? (by: A. Amper)
WHAT MAKES THE WIND WHOOSOOSH???
Winds are caused by the suns heat falling on different parts of the earths surface at different times of the day and year. The temperature over land and water change at different rate during the day and night. In addition warm air rises and cold air sinks. These changes caused the movements of air in different patterns called winds.
