Spooks

The clip I watched was Spooks my analysis was on gender. The representation

of women on this clip is very formal, and well behaved. However, here is one

scene that contrasts this. The men tin this clip is represented as competitive and

 boastful.

Foley sound is used in this clip. This is at the beginning when the men are

shooting at their targets. Gun shots in real life do make noise, making it

diagetic sound. It sounds natural on the scene, but the producers have taken it

out and enhanced it so that it stands out, and the audience can hear it even

more. This represents the men as typical men, interested in their weapons.

When the bullet falls and hits the floor which again is Foley sound, the sound

of that particular bullet matches the picture of it falling.

In this scene there is also sound mixing. This is where there are different levels

of sound. This is when the two men are firing their bullets, but at the same time

are talking. The audience are able to hear clearly what the men are saying to

each other, but at the same time can hear the gun firing in the background. As

long as the background music, this is very low and discreet. This sound mixing

makes the males look very dominating.

Sound mixing also takes place when the woman is watching ballet. The door

bell rings, which are Foley sound, you can still hear the ballet on the television.Even when the man and the man and the women are both talking the ballet is

still heard. This contrasts with the bullets that the audience hear earlier on.

Making the female very feminine as she is watching ballet, which sounds very

soft and mellow.

A sound effect makes the audience more intrigued. Sound effects are very

common. In this case it is used when the doors are opening for the men to go

through. There a beeping sound and a whoosh sound effect. This makes the

programme sound very masculine and sci-fi. Again this appealing to males.

Another sound effect used is when the writing appears outside the buildings. The writing shows ‘New recruit orientation.’ When this writing comes up it

sounds like it’s done on a type writer, however it’s a sound effect used.

The dialogue used shows the difference in the way that the males and females

are represented in this clip. The men speak formal, however, not as formal as

the women, such as the teacher in the class room, talking to her students. The

men speak very loud, like they’re almost shouting. The men also like to boast,

try to show each other whose better. “I used to do a bit of iathlon, you no the

skiing.”
