Dear Brothers and Sisters, As I write this, I am filled with excitement that we can finally worship together again in our Church. Certainly, when the Covid-19 crisis began, none of us anticipated that it would take this long. But it also seems appropriate that it is the feast of Corpus Christi that brings us back together. This feast day was established in 1264 by Pope Urban IV, at the behest of St. Thomas Aquinas. Ever since, it has been an annual celebration of the tremendous gift of the Real Presence of Jesus – Body, Blood Soul, & Divinity – in the Eucharist. We need this periodic reminder because, under normal circumstances, it is easy for us to become complacent about this astounding reality and its potentially life-changing implications. When we have the opportunity to receive Holy Communion daily, and to visit the Blessed Sacrament for Adoration almost any time, we can take it for granted. Our reverence can wane, and we can miss out on powerful graces. Worse yet, we can even do spiritual harm to ourselves and others by the manner and state in which we receive the Lord. This time, however, there are many people for whom this weekend may be their first opportunity for Holy Communion in nearly three months. Hopefully, this time of pain has also brought an increased awareness of the incalculable value of the Eucharist for us, and with it a desire to participate with greater attentiveness and fervor. This is also a time to examine ourselves and recognize if there is anything on our conscience that should prevent us from worthy Communion, and to resolve to get to Confession so that nothing stands between us and our Lord. It may also be a good time to review (and reform if necessary) the way that we receive Communion. May this feast of Corpus Christi, which presents a new beginning for us in communal worship, also bring renewal in our appreciation, our reverence, and our worthy reception of the Body and Blood of Christ.

First Reading: Deuteronomy 8:2-3, 14b-16a Moses reminds the Israelites that when they were starving in the desert, the Lord fed them with “manna” -- a food not known to them. Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 Paul points out to the Corinthians that through the sharing of the cup and the breaking of the bread, they are all one in Christ Jesus. Gospel: John 6:51-58 After Jesus feeds the five thousand people with barley loaves and fishes, he tries to make them understand the significance and the meaning of what he has done. He tells them, in mysterious and beautiful words, that the bread he gives is his flesh and says, “I myself am the living bread... If anyone eats this bread, he shall live forever.”

Welcome Home! After three months apart, it is a great joy to welcome you back to church, and to invite you to join us, in person, for Mass! Public Masses are resuming this weekend for the Feast of Corpus Christi, June 13-14. A modified schedule (below) will be in effect and may be subject to change.

Please allow extra time and plan to arrive early, as seating capacity will be limited. All will be expected to observe hand hygiene, wear a face covering, and maintain 6-foot physical distancing, as well as follow any posted signs or verbal instructions from staff and ushers.

Holy Communion will take place after the final blessing, and the Chalice will not be offered. Reception of Communion in the hand is encouraged; those receiving on the tongue should wait until after the others have received. Communion will also be available in the parking lot after the 5 pm Mass at Holy Trinity, which will also be livestreamed.

If you are feeling unwell, if you think you may have been exposed to Covid-19, or if you find yourself in a high-risk category for more severe illness from Covid-19, you are advised to remain at home.
