Worship Services Break Free
Our Saturday evening service begins at 6:00 pm in the Family Life Center. This transformational service involves modern music, multimedia, and a style of preaching that is practical and participatory.
Traditions
At 8:00 and 11:00 am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary we celebrate through the rich traditions of our faith such as hymns led by organ and piano, seasonal vestments, and traditional Methodist liturgy. Our Chancel Choir leads the 11:00 service.
Connect
At 9:30 Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary we engage in a four-fold service of gathering praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns.
Freedom
At 11:07 Sunday mornings in the Family Life Center Gym we worship through modern music, multimedia, and a teaching style message in a non-traditional atmosphere. We come to God as we are to experience the freedom of not having to stay that way.

Nursery Workers Needed Looking for 2 paid employees with flexible hours for our nursery schedule. Work is in nursery caring for and presenting the ministry of the Gospel to 6 week olds-4 year old. Must be able to: Lift and hold children of 6 weeks-4 years old. Change diapers. Keep room sanitized. Understand and have knowledge of child care. Must be 18 or older. Deeds of Shalom There used to be a television show named Candid Camera. The show would feature staged surprises and pranks. Some of the episodes were hilarious. My favorite one was a stranger asking a person seated next to them at the diner, “Can I dunk my doughnut in your coffee?” The simple question led to priceless facial expressions. When the prank was revealed and they said “Smile you’re on candid camera” it produced unstoppable laughter and fun. You might remember there was a tag line for the show Candid Camera. “Somewhere, sometime, when you least expect it smile you’re on Candid Camera!” I loved that show. It showed how happy surprises break down barriers and walls so people could just relate as people. Our invitation to our congregation to spontaneously share “deeds of shalom” also involves the element of joyful surprises. Deeds of shalom can halt ordinary life of being busy, preoccupied, worried, bored, and replace it with love. The little deed we do for someone can even be the spark to change a life. I can remember people who said kind things or showed extra mile compassion that changed my life. You might recall the people who have done so in your life. We never know how far a deed of shalom can go! Shalom is a word that captures God’s vision for the world. Shalom can be used to say hello or goodbye. It is a Hebrew word which means peace and extending to someone wholeness in body, mind, and spirit. Everyone has many needs; spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental. We function at our highest level when everything is whole and congruent. In offering deeds of shalom we are impacting people who may be fragmented. Our deeds done in love can offer hope for a life of harmony in body, soul, and mind. In my evangelism class, at Emory University, Dr. George Morris used the phrase shalom often. He taught us that shalom was God’s vision for the people of the world. God has a vision of spiritual wholeness for the world. Jesus was sent into the world to live this vision of peace and wholeness. Shalom seems to capture what we are aspiring to in this life to be whole as persons. If we are spiritually whole, our body and spirit will be at peace as well. Shalom captures so much and this is why I have ended my newsletter articles with the word shalom through the years. As we go out this week, we have a real opportunity to make someone’s day, heal their brokenness, extend love they have not received, and even change a person’s life! Let’s go out and change this community with deeds of shalom this week. Let’s start changing the world for Jesus!

Changing the world can begin by loving one person at a time and one deed at a time. Would it not be great to put a smile on someone’s face and share Jesus’ love by our deeds. Let’s surprise someone with a deed of kindness this week. Our doing so will produce the element of surprise which we might hear someone say, ”Somewhere, sometime, and when it’s least expected Smile Jesus loves you; this is why I do the deed of shalom!”

Worship and prayer was the center of the Jewish life and the early Christian community. Peter and John were having a normal day, seeking worship in the Temple when they noticed someone who was unable to worship because he was set apart from the Jewish community due to his physical disabilities. Read Acts 3:1-3. What do you picture, as the scene is set for Peter and John's arrival? How is this like your days entering worship? Have you ever noticed who is along your path from home to church? Read Acts 3:4-6. What did the man desire from them? What did they give? What do people around us in need desire from us? How can we offer them Jesus Christ? Read Acts 3:7-8. Who in your life needs to be lifted up like the lame man? How can you lift them? What are some ways you can help them stand, walk, and leap? Read Acts 9-11. When have you seen someone respond with this kind of joy to
someone's kindness? What can you do this week to love someone as Peter loved? As you go through your week, pray and ask God to show you who you need to build a relationship with. Seek moments to bring peace into their lives, loving them as God loves them. Be a friend to someone who needs one, lifting them up so they can leap.

If you have a school-aged child that attends Shalimar, Longwood, Kenwood, Elliot Point, or Liza Jackson (Cow Bus Pick-up only), then come sign up! We serve a healthy snack, help with homework, have a Bible devotion/craft, and play. If you love working with children, we could always use an Adult reading buddy and homework volunteer. Sunday School News: 9:30 am - Sign in at the FLC kiosk. We bring Bible stories to life each week with our Year’s Theme: The Hero’s Among Us Children’s Church News: 11/11:07 am - Sign in at the FLC kiosk - bring your children directly to their FLC upstairs classrooms. They will experience their own service with time to worship and praise in a fun and exciting way. Everything we teach in Children’s Church is based on one of the three basic, but powerful, truths modeled by Jesus in Luke 2:52.
I need to make the wise choice. I can trust God no matter what. I should treat others the way I want to be treated.
Children’s Church is designed to provoke discovery and invite kids into a new understanding of how to grow in relationship with Jesus. It focuses on 150 Bible stories, 4 faith skills, and 30 life applications.
Bridge Kidz News: The Bridge is a special group of all of our 4-5th graders. We are bridging the gap from childhood to youth. In the bridge we will focus our attention on good choices, good manners, and good behavior to ourselves and others. We have special outings as a part of this process to teach us these important etiquettes and Godly qualities, special studies on the Beatitudes, and the Fruit of the Spirit as we grow in our relationships with God. We have Youth Group mentors that participate with us. We meet on select days for special activities. The first one is August 26th with a special family luncheon to meet everyone.
Kidz Club News: (School Year Only): Wednesdays, Starting Aug. 15. Supper Club-4:45-5:30 pm $3 each week. Parents purchase a ticket for supper club through church office, Jennifer Guidoni, or Dawn Rozofsky before noon on Tuesdays. Children’s Choir 5:30-6:15 pm K-5th Grade. Kidz Choir sings the 1st Sunday of the month, presents a Christmas Musical, and a Spring Musical. Contact Kathy Curry, [email protected]. Kidz Club: 6:15-8:00 pm. Fun and interactive event rotation: Sport, Bible, and Craft. Kids love gathering in their very own club! Bus Ministry: We provide a bus ministry in the Shalimar area for kids, K -5th grade. We pick up/deliver from their homes for Sunday School. If you know someone who could benefit, or if you would like help evangelize for this ministry contact, Jennifer Guidoni. Sunday, August 26th: 1st meeting of “the Bridge” Luncheon after church! All 4-5th graders and their families are invited to come.
