Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time St. Paul sure had a way with words―beautiful, eloquent words. The letter to the church in Ephesus will be read all the way until September, so watch for it every Sunday. It’s the letter about the Church that existed in that earliest Christian century. It’s full of majestic language, and today’s section is some of its loveliest. The letter touches on issues and themes that would have affected the growing Church AFTER the martyrdom of St. Paul in the mid-sixties. This, along with many other arguments, has convinced many biblical scholars (but not all) that the actual author was probably a secretary of Paul’s, who knew his writing style and the prayerful way he would approach the leadership issues of the late first century. The letter has always carried Paul’s name, however, because ancient writers had no qualms about naming as author the person who inspired the work. For the earliest Christians, the gospel was one word: peace. But don’t feel left out because you weren’t alive in those days. Ephesians says, “He came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.” We are the ones who are “far off.” Did the writers imagine that, nearly two thousand years later, these words would be read in churches around the world in the summer of 2018? The most singular message of Jesus is still this: peace. Let this be our “save page” for this summer: a thousand brave rescuers from around the world, working together to lead those twelve boys and their coach out of that cave. That’s peace. Can we let that monumental human achievement change us, and elevate us? Of course we can.

What touched you the most as you watched the world come to-

gether with a common purpose?

Tuition Assistance Fund

Cost to Educate: $10,000.00 per student/per school year Out-of-Parish Rate: $7,200.00 per student/per school year In-Parish Rate: $4,750.00 per student/per school year We believe a Catholic Education should be available, accessible and affordable to all children regardless of their socio-economic status. The Tuition Assistance Fund provides this much needed financial assistance for around 50% of our families who desire to provide a quality Catholic education and who would otherwise be unable to afford the full cost of tuition. When you support our Tuition Assistance Fund, you help make up the difference between the annual cost of tuition and what an individual family can afford to pay as scholarships are awarded on a sliding scale to our families in need. Please help our families afford the cost of tuition by donating an amount that is appropriate for you.

Do you have an interest in helping make a St. Clare education possible for families of the Valley? Do you have a CDL and would be willing to help drive a bus to transport children? St. Clare is exploring options for providing transportation to families. We would need the help of a dedicated person with a CDL to make this possible. If you are interested in helping by driving a bus, please contact Sr. Mary Elisha Glady at [email protected].

Quote Corner: Wisdom from

Sharing the Gospel for Kids Have you ever just wanted to be alone for a while? Jesus and his disciples knew what that felt like. They wanted to be alone to talk and rest, but crowds of people were surrounding them. Even when Jesus and his disciples tried to slip away unnoticed, people followed them anyway. They arrived only to find more crowds of people. This was certainly not the quiet time they had planned on. Being patient and kind, Jesus gave up what he wanted, and he began to teach the crowds. Prayer Dear God, thank you that Jesus gave up what he wanted, just so he could help other people. Help me to follow his example. Amen. Something to Draw Draw a picture of Jesus surrounded by large crowds of people. Mission for the Week Spend some alone time with Jesus tonight. If you get interrupted because someone else needs help, that's okay. Go help, and then come back to your alone time with Jesus again.
