When we last saw Dt. Hu and Dunnit, they were trying to figure out who had been threatening Mrs Fandinkle.

I think we have the answer! Why don’t we

bring Mrs. Fandinkle back to the office to tell

her what we know?

Page 4: The case of the battling burgers

Mrs. Fandinkle entered the room impatiently. “It’s good to see you again, Mrs. Fandinkle,” began Dt. Hu, “Why don’t you take a seat?” “Thank you dearie. I trust you have that scoundrel Reggie all locked up! He is menace!” “Interesting. Mrs. Fandinkle, why do you assume that Reggie is the culprit?” “Isn’t it obvious! It’s not enough that that man steals my business?”

Dt Hu and Dunnit looked at each other.

“Mrs. Fandinkle,” Dt. Dunnit begain, “I think it’s time we went through the details of your case. Let’s start at the beginning…”

You came to us with a straightforward complaint. Someone had been snooping around your house. They left behind a threatening note and a footprint from a size 12 shoe. The police, you claimed, didn’t want anything to do with solving this mystery intruder. With your complaint, you gave us information about Reggie, the owner of a competing fast-food restaurant across the street.

Page 6: The case of the battling burgers

He had a motive – you’re business was a threat to his, and he suspected you had stolen his recipe (a claim you deny vehemently).

He also had opportunity, and - Importantly – size 12 shoes.

But you had other reasons to hate Reggie.

Page 7: The case of the battling burgers

Your son, Bob, had started working for the competition. How you must have hated Reggie now! He took your business AND your son!

Page 8: The case of the battling burgers

As if I care two hoots about that silly boy! You are

crazy! Reggie is the one who is out to get

me.

Page 9: The case of the battling burgers

By all accounts, your son appears to hate you. And Reggie doesn’t think much of you either.

But all of this is just a smoke screen.

You see, you’ve been wanting to put Reggie out of business for a while now. Reggie’s new menu was just a new incentive – he started making more money than you!

You had to act…

And you knew just the person who could help you do it…

Bob.

Sure, you hadn’t got along well in the past, but that sort of thing can be put to rest when there is an inheritance at stake All you had to do was convince him that putting Reggie out of business would be good for him in the long run.

Page 11: The case of the battling burgers

The scene was set – Bob was in a good position to take Reggie’s new secret recipe, and no one would expect someone who so openly hates you to do something like this.

“Ridiculous! You don’t know what you are on about!”

Page 12: The case of the battling burgers

On the contrary, I think we know exactly what we are talking about.

Isn’t that right, Bob?

“Give it up, Mother. They’ve got it figured out. Yes, I stole Reggie’s recipe. And I helped plant the note and the size 12 footprint, so we could damage his name.”

Page 13: The case of the battling burgers

“YOU WEAK CHILD! We would have got away with it too, if it weren’t for your confession! There is no evidence!”

Page 14: The case of the battling burgers

And as Hu and Dunnit watched on, Mrs. Fandinkle walloped Bob with her handbag. “We almost had him!” Whack! “Mother-” Ducking, “the game was up!” “Don’t you tell me the game is up!” Thwump! “Can’t we just go home now?” “I’ll tell you when you can go home!” Thunk!

Hu and Dunnit shook their heads as the pair left their

office. Another case closed.
