Looking back – show reviews

Term: Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery. Definition: ‘The branch of surgery con-cerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal (bone, joint, or muscle) sys-tem of foetuses, infatns, children, adolescents, and young adults.’ The latest developments of the above were in sharp focus at the 3rd edition of the Pediatirc Orthopaedic Surgery Conference, which took place last weekend in Dubai, and as well attended by more than 150 delegates from across the Middle East. An expert faculty of 21 speakers from all over the world delivered presentations and case studies covering the head to toe (literally) of pediatric orthopaedic surgery, engaging the audience with interactive discussion and lively debates.

The BOHS Worker Health Protection Conference took place in Abu Dhabi im-mediately after the Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Conference, wrapping up a busy couple of weeks for the conference team. More than 100 occupational health and hygiene professionals from throughout the region attended the four-day summit, all eager to learn the latest issues that affect worker health and wellbeing.

Among the highlights from the 20-strong expert speaker panel was a case study presentation from the world’s largest gas-to-liquids plant in Qatar, and the latest occupational health and safety regulations from the Abu Dhabi Occupational Health & Safety Centre (OSHAD).

The magical Light team has got the new exhibition season off to a flying start with the 9th edition of Light Middle East , having laid down the marker with an amaz-ing show that was capped off with the glittering Light Middle East Awards ceremony.

The show’s 29 per cent growth in exhibitor numbers – 326 this year – was matched by the 26 per cent year-on-year increase in visitors (6,300) and was a beacon of shining light at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

For an event that three years ago was originally planned to be a conference with a few exhibitors on the side, Light Middle East has developed into a full-fledged ex-hibition, and growing. Another piece of wizardry from Jasmeet and his team….what will they have in store for us next?

Not willing to rest on their laurels, the conference team has launched another two targeted shows in its ever-expanding portfolio. Taking place in 2015, the 1st GCC Virology Conference is the first conference of its kind in the Middle East, and will attract a lot of attention with highly relevant topics from how the SARS outbreak was controlled, to the latest diagnostics for the current headline grabbing virus, Ebola.

The Managing Human Assets in Energy Forum will also take place next year, where regional HR bosses in the energy and utilities industries will come together to strategise on how to attract and retain talent in an industry that needs to em-ploy 120,000 new employees worldwide.

Leatherworld team on path to success

A major milestone for the Leatherworld team occurred last month, when they signed on their first official exhibitor for the show. Italian company Real Piel SRL signed the dotted line on 14 Octo-ber, and they will soon be joined by more than 120 other exhibitors in the coming months. Congratu-lations to Mohamad & Co. on their first step to success!

Automechanika Dubai

13th edition June 2 - 4 , 2015

The Saudi automotive after-market was in sharp focus in September as Gazi and co. had more than 85 senior in-dustry figures salivating about the Kingdom’s potential busi-ness opportunities at the 4th bi-annual Automechanika Dubai Network event.

Held at the EMF office, the business lunch was a big success, with two presentations from market experts highlighting the growth of the Saudi autoafter-market trade, leading to engaging discussions about the capitalising on its unique business climate.

Needless to say, the overall feedback from all who attended was very positive, and Saudi will remain a big talking point for the auto aftermarket sector, which is the largest in the Middle East.

Epoc Messe Frankfurt gets behind local SMEs

Saudi auto aftermarket hits top gear

In September Epoc Messe Frankfurt extended an agreement with Dubai SME that will give UAE start-ups an opportunity to shine at Intersec 2015 free of charge. The ongoing partnership will see a dedicated Dubai SME Pavilion at Intersec for the second year in a row, where ten locally owned small businesses will rub shoulders with the world’s largest safety & security firms.

The agreement was signed by Abdul Basit Al Janahi, CEO of Dubai SME, and Ahmed Pauwels, who said that SMEs are the backbone of our economy, adding: “We are looking at the possibility of extending this agreement across our entire portfolio of nine exhibitions to boost the business potential of the small and medi-um enterprise sector across a diverse range of industries.”
