The Class of 1967 is proud

to dedicate this year's Blaze to

M r. & Mrs. Theodore F. Linn, Jr. For the past ten years they have

given unselfishly so that Cardigan

might be a better place In which

to live and learn. We who have

known the Linn family will remember them for the high standards

and ideals they set for themselves and for us.

A HYMN TO

CARDIGAN MOUNTAIN SCHOOLby Robert C. Hopkins

To Cardigan our favored school By nature's gifts benign - - We raise in song our thankfulness For beauty which is thine; For winter's snow; For after-glowWhen day fades into dreamsOf goals toward which we all will striveTo keep thy faiths alive; To keep thy faith in us alive,Together we will strive.

As Cardigan is mirrored inOur crystal lake so clear - -May we through life reflect thy truthsAnd m em ories as dear:Of summer's green;Fall's colors bright;Of glim m ering stars at night.God give us strength to carry on Through storm or weather fair The peace, vouchsafed by living here, For all the world to share.

This year the Cardigan Football T eam was m arked as a failure. This failure was due to the size and power. Though the size was small in both respects and the power was lim ited , the am bition, drive, guts and coaches overruled the team spirit in our downfall of hard fought games.

The first game played on Cardigan soil with T ilton marked our first defeat of 14-36. Our second defeat fell to the Proctor Reserves 6-12. Then in the third gam e Cardigan ventured to New Hampton and finished in a hard fought game with a tie of 6-6 . The fourth game which we lost to Vermont Academy with a score of 10-14 was a close struggle. The fifth game of the season we were m et with another defeat with a score of 24-0 by K im ball Union Academy. Our last and final gam e was lost to Brewster Academy with a score of 30-16.

This y ea r's soccer team began on a m uch higher le v e l o f ab ility than last year. During the first few practices the basic skills of passing, trapping, and k ick ing were quickly m astered . The first few scrim m ages c lea rly showed the basic superiority of the offense as com pared to the defense. T he offense was so c lea rly ta len ted th a t we won our first th ree gam es against New H am pton, La S a le tte , and Holderness by scores of 6 -0 , 3 -1 , and 5 -3 respective ly .

We lost our first gam e on the road to New H am pton on a ra in soaked fie ld 3 -2 . We had a sneaking suspicion th a t the opposition had w ater wings in add ition to their right and le f t wings.

The next gam e was to be the best gam e of the season, the fina l turning point to our w inning ways. K im ball Union A cadem y, a team we had never beaten , m anaged to .hold off our scoring bids for the first h a lf and desperately held on wliile we pum ped two shots through the goal. The gam e ended in a 2 -2 tie .

At La S a le tte we again fe ll v ic tim , this tim e to ra ther m ountainous terra in on th e ir soccer fie ld . Holderness proved to be our only double win of the season w ith a score of 6 -2 . K .U . A. m anaged to avenge the ea rlie r 2 -2 tie by beating us at hom e a t our final gam e 3 -1 .

Our to ta l season reads 4 wins, 4 losses and 1 tie , but the num ber of goals te ll a d ifferen t story. We outscored our opposition 2 7 -19 . N eedless to say, m uch of the cred it goes to our two coaches, M r. Lom bard and Mr. M arshall.
