March is full of exciting happenings here at First Bap-

tist. First of all, I would like to welcome our newest

members to the Deacon Body: Tanner Battey, Marty

Taylor Sue. Over the past year, these men were nomi-

nated, elected, trained, and confirmed to serve as dea-

cons. Please join us on March 1 as we ordain these men to serve in the deacon ministry.

Remember as you pray for these men to include their wives as they serve alongside and

support their husbands in the days ahead.

On March 15th we will join the congregation of Mount Zion Baptist Church with Brother

Askew bringing the message in our morning service and as I bring a message at Mount

Opportunities: Still looking for someone to help

with RA’s….

Kids Kamp: Our Sponsor Commitment is through

the end of this month. We need to know how many

sponsors we have before we know how many chil-

dren we can accommodate at Kids Kamp. Right now we still need A LOT

of men willing to sponsor. We need day and night sponsors, preferably men

who can stay the whole time, day and night and build relationships with

these young boys.

Awana: Awana will not meet the week of Spring Break, March 18. Sunday Evening Spiritual Gifts Class for kids: We will meet March 22

and 29. We will not meet March 1, 8, or 15 due to other evening events.

Operation Christmas Child: I love the homemade things our mem-bers have made to add to the Operation Christmas Child Shoe-boxes. For those of you who know how to crochet, I found a pattern to crochet frisbees! These would be perfect to add to the boys box-es! Let me know if you would like a pattern!

Be Blessed! Ludustia

What does it mean to be #Blessed? This hashtag is used on social me-

dia to express thankfulness for fortunate circumstances in everyday

life. Here are several examples: Got a raise at work? #Blessed. A sig-

nificant other who brings you DQ or Chick-Fil-A? #Blessed. Having a

good hair day? #Blessed.

As Christians we use that term too. We ask God for His blessings, we talk about

being blessed by God, but is the blessed life the same as a successful life? Does #Blessed

mean that everything is perfect? Of course not, we are imperfect beings due to our sinful

nature, so we all fall drastically short of perfection in a major way. There is a need we all

have that is deep down inside of us that nothing in the earth can fill. The richest person on

earth, the most powerful person in the world, and the ones who have achieved all of the

greatest achievements in life, and those whom we may consider the most successful people

on the planet, all have a need that is much bigger than them...and so do we. The only thing

that qualifies as such, to fill the void in our lives, is our God who alone is holy, perfect, and

pure. The earthly "blessings" that we may experience on this earth are only temporary and

they can all be taken away in the blink of an eye. Money doesn't last very long, relation-

ships will fade away, dreams become shattered, and health eventually starts to fail. All of

these earthly things have time limits. But God's richest blessings will last forever and it is

often through our trials, our deepest needs, and our most painful events in life that God

shows truly how much greater and more fulfilling are the blessings that come out of them

when we trust in Him.

This month, our students are looking at the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7.

They are spending some time looking into the Beatitudes and what it means to be truly

#Blessed. We may consider many things in life to be blessings and even great things that

we can thank God for, but the greatest blessing we can receive in life is God himself. It is

in Him alone and through the joy of knowing Him and the salvation in Jesus Christ, that

we can experience the fullness of the meaning #blessed.

When an opportunity arises to minister in a new capacity, I like to take it.

My title is Minister of Music, but I know God can, and wants to use me in

many different ways. Some recent opportunities that have arisen for me are

the mission trip to Houston February 21-23, preaching for the Sunday morn-

ing service March 8th, and making myself available to mentor and disciple a

young lady. Each of those things are pulling me out of my comfort zone,

and God is using them to grow and mature me in Himself. I’m trying to get better about praying

for those kinds of opportunities. What about you? Are you willing to make yourself available for

God to use you in new ways? Maybe the first step is to pray for the courage to do so. God wants to

use us to further His kingdom in more ways than one.

Praying for you,

Ashley Adams
