OnSaturdayAugust15th theChurchcelebrates the solemnityof theAssump>onoftheBlessedVirginMary.Maryisamodeloftruediscipleshipandfaith:hersurrendertoGod’swillgivesusapaHernforourownlivesoffaith.AsamodeloftheChurch,herlifegivesushopeinthefuturepromiseofglorygiventousatourBap>sm. Thegovernmenthasintroducednewmeasuresofcoveringfacesinallenclosedbuildingsincludingchurches,whichhasbeeneffec>vefromlastweekendSaturday8thAugust,pleasetrytoremembertobringafacecoveringmaskwithyouatall>mes.

Thankyouforhelpingusbycomplyingtotheguidelines,Iaskandencourageyoutocon>nuetohelpusbytakingallthenecessaryprecau>onsandassumingyourpersonalresponsibili>esespeciallywhileusingthetoilets,bywipingthingsyoutouch,suchasdoorhandles,knobsandwatertaps.

NotwithstandingtheabsenceofareadingfromtheOldTestamentattoday'sMass,weneverthelesshavetwodis>nctandrelevantreferencesbacktotheHebrewScripturesintoday'sfirstreadingandGospel.AtthemomentofMary'sconsenttothemessageoftheangelGabriel,theWordofGodwasconceivedwithinher;shebecamethebearerofGod'sword.(Luke1:38).Similarly,theArkoftheCovenant,revealedtoJohntheApostleinourfirstreading,carriedwithinitthetwotabletsoftheTenCommandments,etchedonbothsides"bythefingerofGod"(Exodus31:18).InHebrewtheyareknownastheTenWords(Exodus20:1).TheArkcontainingthewordsofGodwasbornethroughouttheIsraelites'journeyingtothePromisedLand,andwascrucialtotheiriden>tyasGod'schosenpeople,beingavisiblesignofHispresencewiththem,guidingandprotec>ngthem.Outstandingalsoasanindica>onofthesolemnityanduniquenessofGod'schoiceofMarytobethebeareroftheSavingWordtoallpeoplewastheformofgree>ngaddressedtoherbytheangel.Gabrieladdressedherwitha>tle:"Rejoice,sohighlyfavoured"(Luke1:28),onlymorefamiliarlybyhergivenname,Mary,uponher"deeplydisturbed"(Luke1:29)reac>ontohisfirstaddress.AswithIsraelitesandtheArkoftheword,Mary'simmediatereac>ontothenewsthathercousinElizabethwaswithchild,wastojourneytoher,carryingwithinhertheWordbecomingflesh. CHURCHREFURBISHMENTWORKS

Ourchurchrefurbishmentprogrammeisnearcomple>on95%ofthework,someminordetailsandrepairworkstobedone.Following the >me consuming and hard work of preparing andrepairingthewalls,thechurchispaintedandlooksmuchcleanerandcompletelyrefreshed.

A very small work of repairing and pain>ng of the arched corridor and the ceilingremains to be done. We thank Mr. Marc Bernard and his colleagues for theirexcellent and professional job. Cleaning the walls, windows and statues, with avacuum cleaner, followed by washing it with Sugar Soap, the extensive repairingworks and the sealing of the breathing blocks on the walls of the two sides andbehindthealtarhasnowcometocomple>on.

Inthelastweekwiththehelpofsevenparishioners,wecleanedalltheMarblepillars,theboHomofthebrownpaintedbrickworkofthebigpillars,radiators,woodentopsof theradiators,windowsandwoodenrailings in thegallery,Altar,Ambo,credencetableandthebap>smalfontgranitestones,thesta>onsofthecross,theStatueofSt.William,allthepictureorprayerframesinthesacristyetc….havebeencleaned.

I thank you for your generosity when called upon, I applaud the strong sense ofownershipandbelongingthatIwitnessintheparish.

Thecostoftherepairingandredecora>ngworkis£10,250,sofarwehavereceived£2,795.00indona>onstowardsthisprojectfromparishioners.

As you can see we have a long way to reach the cost. Any dona>on towards thisprojectisgreatlyappreciated.TheparishfinancecommiHeeandImadethisdecisiontocarrythisworksencouragedbythelockdownandthenewsea>ngarrangementinthe church which made the pain>ng job easier as we have most of our churchfurnitureoutofthechurch.
