Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This Sunday, we can see Jesus coming by the banks of the river Jordan: it is
Christ walking by! It was about four o'clock in the afternoon, when noticing
two young men following him, He asks
them «What are you looking for?» (Jn 1:38). And, surprised at the question,
they answer «‘Rabbi (which means Master), where are you staying?’.
‘Come and see’» (Jn 1:39).
I am also following Jesus, but… what do I want? what am I seeking? He is
who asks me: «Truly, what do you
want?». O! if I would only be coura-geous enough to tell him: «I am seek-
ing you, Jesus», most surely I would have already found him, «For the one
who seeks, finds» (Mt 7:8). But I am such a coward and always reply with
words not too engaging: «Where are you staying?». But Jesus does not sim-
ply put up with my answer; He knows
but too well that I do not just need a lot of words, but a friend, The Friend:
Him. This is why He tells me: «Come and see», «come and you will see it».
Simon Peter became the rock, a rock? Not one of them is able to understand
those words. They do not know Jesus has come to build his own Church with
living stones. He has already chosen
the first two bricks, John and Andrew, and he has decided that Simon will be
the rock upon which the whole building will stand.
And, before going to his Father, he will
answer our question: «Rabbi, where are you staying?». While blessing his
Church, He will answer: «And behold, I
am with you always, until the end of the age» (Mt 28,20).
Here at Saint Anthony we are building the Kingdom of God and we have to
build it with living stones. Many bless-ings are coming soon, help us to build
community and to do good for God and Neighbor.

SUNDAY : SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JANUARY 14, 2017
Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas:
Hoy vemos a Jesús que venía por la
ribera del Jordán: ¡es Cristo que pa-sa! Debían ser las cuatro de la tarde
cuando, viendo que dos chicos le
seguían, se ha girado para pregun-tarles: «Qué buscáis?» (Jn 1,38). Y
ellos, sorprendidos por la pregunta, han respondido: «Rabbí —que quiere
decir “Maestro”— ¿dónde vives? (...)
‘Venid y lo veréis’» (Jn 1,39).
También yo sigo a Jesús, pero...
¿qué quiero?, ¿qué busco? Es Él
quien me lo pregunta: «De verdad, ¿qué quieres?». ¡Oh!, si fuera sufi-
cientemente audaz para decirle: «Te busco a ti, Jesús», seguro que le
habría encontrado, «porque todo el
que busca encuentra» (Mt 7,8). Pero soy demasiado cobarde y le respondo
con palabras que no me comprome-ten demasiado: «¿Dónde vives?».
Jesús no se conforma con mi res-puesta, sabe demasiado bien que no
es un montón de palabras lo que ne-
cesito, sino un amigo, el Amigo: Él. Por esto me dice: «Ven y lo verás»,
«venid y lo veréis».
Vemos que Simón le llama Pedro, que quiere decir ¡Piedra!, ¿Simón,
una piedra? Ninguno de ellos está preparado para comprender estas
palabras. No saben que Jesús ha ve-
nido a levantar su Iglesia con piedras vivas. Él tiene ya escogidos los dos
primeros sillares, Juan y Andrés, y ha dispuesto que Simón sea la roca en
la que se apoye todo el edificio.
Y, antes de subir al Padre, nos dará respuesta a la pregunta: «Rabbí,
¿dónde vives?». Bendiciendo a su Iglesia dirá: «Yo estaré con vosotros
cada día hasta el fin del mundo» (Mt
28,20). Aquí en San Antonio estamos construyendo Reino de Dios y tene-
mos que construirlo con piedras vi-vas. Muchas bendiciones vienen
pronto y nos ayudarán a construir la
comunidad y a hacer el bien a Dios y al prójimo.
