Atlante delle Isole remote series takes a deeper look atexhibitions and projects that have shaped art around—ambitious that have informed and transformed the culturallandscape with a focus on the woman artist practices inrelationship with imaginaries/or real geographies. Atlantedelle Isole remote is a book written by Judith Schalansky.We are pleased to launch the series as digital shows, morewidely accessible to national and international audiences.Each art project is a unique occasion in the context and in themoment in which it is realized. Knowledge becomes a fluidthat is readjusted in the container in which art is proposed.The art fair space will begin an expanded experimental spacefor artists to study how to engage with memory, knowledge,nature substantively. We will explore working methods toengage the environment during a world crisis that creates aspace fluid like an archipelago with a composition of islands.The core show will link with an art lab on the idea oceans,islands, and, mysterious places.Atlante delle Isole Remote in response to the COVID-19pandemic, AAC Platform, and Camilla Boemio is presenting thecontributions of the invited artists in an online platform forpublic viewing. We are inviting you to take advantage of thisopportunity and access these works, most of which areavailable online for the first time. The Archipelago of Knowledge will be the first site-specificshow with American artist McLean Fahnestock.

McLean Fahnestock is a media artist who works across modesof communication, from video and photographic images tosound, and sculpture. She is inspired by the presentationmodes that are found in the institutions that specialize in thedelivery of knowledge – museums, libraries, and the media.

She considers each of these and their roles and contrast themwith heuristic experiential modes of acquiring knowledge.

Her work begins in the institutions that tell the tales ofexploration and describe distant lands. It then expands outinto the field where she reimagines and represents collectedmaterial. Places are at once stable and mutable. There is afalse sense that place is unchanging or is completelyknowable. I examine how the location is experienced acrosstime, the rediscovery of the known, and the layeredrelationship between the main characters: place and explorer.She draws to the explorer and their singular focus on frontiersin spite of the risk, all for the possibility that they could seesomething authentic.The historic explorer is a troubled character at best. She is thedescendent of one. The grandfather sailed the South Pacificfor the American Museum of Natural History. His story, hisflaws, and those of explorers before and after are in the workas well.http://www.mcleanfahnestock.com

Camilla Boemio is a curator, writer, and university consultant.Her work focuses on interdisciplinary systems from anintersectional feminist perspective, with a focus on the socialsystems and other ecologies. Her recent curatorial projectsinclude the exhibition: Jérôme Chazeix: The coat of hipness(materiali velati) in Altaroma2020 agenda at Label201 (2020);the Arts Council England project in which support the MarinaMoreno’s research (2019-2020).

In 2016, she was the curator of Diminished Capacity the firstNigerian Pavilion at the 15th International ArchitectureExhibition La Biennale di Venezia; and in 2013 she was the co-deputy curator of Portable Nation. Disappearance as work inProgress – Approaches to Ecological Romanticism theMaldives Pavilion at 55th International Art Exhibition LaBiennale di Venezia, and in summer 2014 she curatedApprehension Global Society and Contemporary Art on theTwitter Generation, a Parallel Event 6th Bucharest Biennial atUniversitatea Națională de Arte București.

AAC Platform (est. 2007) is an independent, non-profitnomadic research platform, devoted to the commissioning andproduction of new work by local and international artists.
