of the com-

pleted

“Sledding

paintings.

Jason’s “Ice Skating Diorama” can be seen at right.

Although we don’t have very much snow covering the ground outside, there is plenty in the art

room. Students have been creating artwork that depicts cute penguins sliding down mountains of

it (see examples below).

The images were created by layering white, blue, and silver glitter tempera paint over “cool” col-

ored crayons (green, blue, and purple). While the paint is still wet, students sprinkled white cir-

cles (cut using a hole punch) onto the blue sections of their paintings.

After their background paintings were dry, students used various colored pieces of construction

paper and templates to create the penguins and their sleds.

Skills: Cutting, Tracing, Gluing, Painting, Masking, and Coloring.

Over the last few weeks students have also been hard at

work creating 2-D “Snow Globe” collages using many

of the art techniques and materials that they have

learned about over the last year, including decoupage,

collage, coloring, cutting and gluing.

These “Snow Globes” are intended to be used as possi-

ble future Noteworthy Card designs.

(Below are some examples of the completed project.)
