THE 2016 ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT Under the Communication Plan for Mineral Development, the conduct of Awareness and Advocacy on Mineral Resources and Geosciences (MRGS) was achieved through the Stakeholder’s Forum to the Sangguniang Panlungsod/Panlalawigan by presenting the the updates on mining laws. They are follows, namely: 1. Presentation of mining laws to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) members of South Cotabato at the SP conference room, 3 rd floor, Finance Building, Provincial Capitol Compound at 2:00 PM on August 22, 2016. 2. Presentation of mining laws to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) members of Sultan Kudarat at the SP conference room, 2 nd floor, Provincial Capitol Compound, Kenram, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat at 10:00 AM on September 19, 2016. 3. Presentation of mining laws to the Committee on Environment and Tourism of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of North Cotabato held SP conference room, Provincial Capitol Compound, Amas, Kidapawan City, North Cotabato at 1:00 PM on September 20, 2016; and 4. Presentation of mining laws to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) members of Sarangani at the SP session hall, Provincial Capitol Compound, Alabel, Sarangani at 9:00 AM on November 8, 2016. The region was also involved on the dialogues conducted with the religious groups, civil society organizations and the academe on the following. They are: 1. Review of the comprehensive Land Use Plan of the municipality of Tampakan with the Provincial Land Use Committee (PLUC) as resource person on February 9, 2016. 2. 4 th National Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) summit held on April 25- 26, 2016 at the Ateneo de Davao University Community Centre, Davao City. 3. Peace and Development Outreach Program of the 1002 nd Infantry Brigade, 10ID, Philippine Army (PA) for the Farmers and other sectors as a Resource Speaker on the issue on mining of natural resources in the area of Region XII held the Headquarters 1002 nd Infantry BAGWIS Brigade, Sitio Pulatana, Malandag, Malungon, Sarangani Province on June 3, 2016. 4. As resource speaker for the MPA students of NDMU on Seminar on Public Governance with the theme entitled “SOUTH COTABATO MINING: ARE WE

THE 2016 ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT

Under the Communication Plan for Mineral Development, the conduct of Awareness and

Advocacy on Mineral Resources and Geosciences (MRGS) was achieved through the

Stakeholder’s Forum to the Sangguniang Panlungsod/Panlalawigan by presenting the the

updates on mining laws. They are follows, namely:

GAINING OR LOSING?” that was conducted on August 7, 2016 at the FB Hotel and Convention Center, Koronadal City.

On the other hand, radio/TV guesting was undertaken by the Regional Director and technical staff of the region relative to mining issues while news articles were posted at the MGB XII website and were simultaneously disseminated to print media. IEC materials was also produced like calendar and fliers which were disseminated to the local stakeholders and walk-in customers. Mineral Reservation Program

An area proposed for mineral reservation was identified in the Province of Sultan Kudarat

particularly in the municipalities of Kalamansig and Lebak. Prospective areas were

assessed through reconnaissance geological mapping and sampling and field activities

were conducted on September 15-30 and October 19-31, 2016 respectively. Lkwise,

activities were undertaken such as stream sediment sampling on the major river system

and its tributaries while geological mapping/sampling were conducted along the road cuts,

ridge exposures and adit vein exposures. Coconut trees were being counted as part of

the environmental resource mapping. There are a total of eleven (11) stream sediment

samples and forty (40) rock specimens that were collected and stored for laboratory

analysis at MGB-CO, Manila.

flood during Bagyong Senyang and Ruby reach its barangay center.

A creek flowing near Tagite Elementary School in Purok Alcaraz, Taguite, Babatnongon. Due to its shallow depth, it overflows during heavy rainfall, flooding occurs in nearby areas.

Coastal Geohazard Assessment

Coastline in Barangay Nalilidan, Kalamansig with a gentle sloping

slope and coconut plantation.

White beach shoreline of Balut Island in Paril, Kalamansig. It is characterized

by sand and pebble rocks with gentle sloping shoreline.

Quadrangle Geological Mapping

Outcrop mapping along Sarangani-Sultan Kudarat National Road.

Stream Sediment Sampling along Zion River.

Groundwater Resources Assessment

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau-12 technical personnel assisted by representatives

of the City Planning and Development Office of Kidapawan City during the conduct of geological site scoping.
