In a rural, remote public school serving Pre-K

through 5th grade school of 719 students

Total of 49 teachers

Student/Teacher ratio of 14.55 to 1

5th Grade English Language Arts Classroom

accommodating 104 students a day in 5 class

periods

HOW IS IT USED TO SUPPORT THE CURRICULUM

Daily Oral Language – On the SMART Board, student are

given two sentences to correct for grammatical errors.

Dissecting Sentences – Teacher can pull a worksheet on

the SMART Board for students to identify parts of speech

like nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.

Teacher has access to pull anything off the web to assist

in the students understanding of Language Arts.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Teacher uses the smart board to test student’s knowledge

and skill development.

Using the smart board prepares the students for the CRCT.

The teacher can readily see who understands and who needs

more assistance with the skills being taught.

With the new CCGPS standards, the teacher can use the

SMART Board to show Power Point presentations and videos on

supplemental materials that goes along with the lesson plans.

THE DIFFERENCE

Students get enhanced learning though the use of

the SMART Board

Enjoy the technology with daily practice.

Students hold onto the concepts that are taught

better with the visual in front of class.

SUPPORT ISSUES

There is a good support system at this rural, public school.

Anytime new technology is placed in the classroom, the

teachers get the proper training.

The Media Specialist is available to take care of any

technology or equipment failure.

Also, a Technology Specialist (TS) visits the school once a

week to make sure all equipment is working properly. The TS

also assists with any software problems.
