Novena Prayer for the Dead

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Lord, help us to see death for what it really is: The end of poverty and the beginning of riches; the end of

frustration and the beginning of fulfillment, the end of fear and the beginning of tranquility; the end of pain

and the beginning of joy; the end of weakness and the beginning of strength. Let not grief overwhelm us or

a sense of loss embitter us. But out of our sadness, let there arise a new joy for so much given to us.

Cast out our fears and let not our hearts be troubled. Let your spirit of peace come alive within our

experience and hurt, our sorrow and isolation, our sadness today and loneliness tomorrow.

We humbly commend to you, our dear BENITO whom You have called out of this mortal life. You loved

him always with great love. Now that you have freed him from all evils of the earth, bring him into your

paradise where there is no more grief or mourning or sadness but peace and joy with Your Son and the

Holy Spirit forever. We thank you for all the blessings You have given to BENITO in his mortal life. We

pray that he may be able to glorify You with the life that he lived and the way he made use of his blessings.

Lord, grant that we will never forget that life is short and uncertain. Let death remind us of our own

mortality so that we may try to live our own lives in holiness, justice and service to our brothers and sisters.

So that we may prepare our hearts, focused on building our treasures for our eternal life more than our

earthly life. We pray for healing of all unhappy feelings BENITOs death now leaves in our hearts. Be

with us, Lord, during our moments of sorrow and loneliness.

You are our Rock, our Fortress and our Strength. We trust in you and hope in Your glorious resurrection.

Give us the grace to see the blessings out of this crisis and suffering as we lift up to You all our grief and

sorrow, confident that You will change our mourning to rejoicing, that our beloved BENITO now rests inYour peace.

Day 9

My God! How was it possible that I, for so many years, have borne tranquilly the separation from Thee and

Thy holy grace! O infinite Goodness, how long-suffering hast Thou shown Thyself to me! Henceforth, I

shall love Thee above all things. I am deeply sorry for having offended Thee; I promise rather to die than to

again offend Thee. Grant me the grace of holy perseverance, and do not permit that I should ever again fall

into sin. Have compassion on the holy souls in Purgatory. I pray Thee, moderate their sufferings; shorten

the time of their misery; call them soon unto Thee in heaven, that they may behold Thee face to face, and

forever love Thee. Mary, Mother of Mercy, come to their aid with thy powerful intercession, and pray for

us also who are still in danger of eternal damnation.

Prayer to Our Suffering Savior for the Holy Souls in Purgatory (Repeat 3 times)

O most sweet Jesus, through the bloody sweat which Thou didst suffer in the Garden of Gethsemane, have

mercy on these Blessed Souls. Have mercy on them.

ALL: Blessed Souls, I have prayed for thee; I entreat thee, who are so dear to God, and who aresecure of never losing Him, to pray for me a miserable sinner, who is in danger of being

damned, and of losing God forever. Amen.
