i love you.
#Birmingham
I love Birmingham. I’ve grown up here, been educated here, had my heart broken and mended here, and I hope I’ll grow old here.
My love of the city prompted me to
embark on a (primarily personal) photography project. With my trusty battered iPhone and Instagram app, I try to capture images of Birmingham that take my fancy. I aim to show that there can be beauty in industry, and show you where these are: some obvious and some not so obvious.
Each edition of Talk will feature a different
photograph from the project. February’s encapsulates Birmingham, featuring the canal network and the BT tower off in the distance. I snapped it while on a bridge walking towards Robanna’s music studios, one of my favourite rehearsal spaces in Birmingham and frequented by many of our city’s eager musicians.

The Sherlocks
A tour

It isn’t very
often that an unsigned band manage to break
into the UK Top 40, but Sheff ield lads The Sherlocks are hoping to do just that.
At f irst glance this may seem like a small feat, but in a business dominated by rich record labels and
their PR companies it is almost impossible to get by on talent alone. The indie days are long gone. But it is refreshing

to f ind a young band who not only make real, honest music, but who also have the potential to take on the big shots. The Sherlocks’ new single Escapade
is looking likely to enter the UK Top 40 and propel the two sets of brothers to the outskirts of the mainstream. But it’s no surprise, their uptempo and energic records have gained
them an evergrowing fanbase. Their upcoming UK tour, including a show at Birmingham’s TALK Tea Rooms on the 28th Feb, has almost completely sold out. This is surely a sign of the buzz surrounding
these talented youngsters and a credit to their live shows. It is far too common these days for a band to be over-hyped and fail to live up to expectat-ions, but this band don’t have that hype. So the only way is up.

Every time that I’m alone, the memories come
to play. The ones close to the bone, that hurt every
day.You can talk about the
love of your life,The good times, f irst kiss and the f ights.I thought of you to
pass the time,I had no worries because
you were mine,Playing our records in
your room,Just us two playing your
favourite tune,The only reason I smiled, I assume.

The pork pie is a sign of a good old fashioned
local pub. So its only natural that this month we give you one of the best pies around to go with your ale.TrueBites.co.uk’s pie has perfect texture and the right amount of jelly. The pork flavours are enhanced by a golden, crumbly pastry and complements the taste of this months pint, Bathams Bitter.
Easy to come by around these parts but rarely beaten on taste and strength, Bathams is certainly a local gem worth savouring. Be warned though, it doesn’t take many pints of this stuff to blur your head.

REVIEWS
Rihanna, Kanye West & Paul McCartneyFourFive Seconds(Jan26th)**A comical performance by Kanye, vocally, lyrically and in the video, with a mildly catchy chorus and the simplest input from a Beatle give this song two stars. Deduct a star if it turns out Kanye was being serious.
The One Line Reviewer.on Hozier:Not as irritating as Bono, but he did play the V.S. show with Ed Sheeran so he’s getting there.
Peace - Happy People (Feb 9th) ***
Following the massive
hype that surrounded Peace since their early releases it is little surprise that they are yet to fulf il expectations. Their second album doesn’t exactly raise
the bar nor is it ambitious, but it also isn’t terrible. Lyrical genius’ they aren’t, but when they fall lyrically they are salvaged by catchy hooks. Peace don’t do instant
classics, and like most bands now they have a limited shelf life. But what they are good at is making infectious pop records.Three stars may be harsh, but \Happy People lacks depth.
Swim DeepTo My Brother(Feb10th)****A blinding psychedelic return from a more mature sounding Swim Deep. An acid house infused track, but with the same indie edge that made them popular in the f irst place. Risky, but it’s paid off.
