TABLE OF CONTENTS Dear Stakeholders,Our first year has been quite the journey. Not that long ago, the Talent Development

Network (TDN) was just an ambitious idea between seven leading academic institutions to

bring an internship culture to Miami. We have progressed quickly from conceptualization to

actualization and now find ourselves at the mid-point of the two year pilot with a focus on

delivery.

Here are some of our achievements from 2015:

• Established a branding guide

• Developed an online matching portal

• Produced educational modules and guides for student and employers

• Registered 104 employers

• Posted 97 internship positions across Miami-Dade County

Thanks to the contributions of our partners, stakeholders, and community leaders, Miami’s

existential question is no longer IF we have the students or employers to create an internship

culture, it’s HOW to continue to improve the connection between local talent and industry.

I believe this requires a combination of common avenues like internship boards and fairs

with new, more direct outreach efforts like speaking engagements at honor societies. To

create a real internship culture, we need students to associate internships with their degree

completion.

The ultimate key to our success will reside in our ability to connect with our students. We know

doors open up by performing an internship. We know the valuable learning environment

they provide. We know that just one established relationship could lead to an exclusive career

defining opportunity. It’s just a matter of communicating that message to our student body.

And so I end this message with one of my favorite

movie lines:

“Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try”
