1-, 2- or 3-up production without prior cutting of the sheets – the advantage is the direct processing of the com-plete printing size. With its “large-size folding machines”, MBO increases the added value signifi cantly when process-ing large sizes. Technical developments facilitate the operation, increase the productivity and reduce the set-up times. MABEG palletized feeder, AIRSTREAM register table, MULTIPLATE buckle plates and the HIGH-SPEED-GUIDE sheet alignment in the subsequent folding units are standard highlights.

The standard slitter shafts can be replaced by ultra-light carbon slitter shafts. Only MBO guarantees a quick change through plug bearings. – An even more operator-friendly and ergonomically ideal working is possible with the MBO slitter shaft cassette MWK.

Through the digital machine control NAVIGATOR-Control and the electronic set-up system RAPIDSET, a semi-automation is possible. Through a linkage to the MBO DATAMANAGER, it is possible to combine superior systems of operational- and set-up data through CIP 3-4 or JDF.

High-pile palletized feeder by MABEGFor excellent sheet separation, also at light papers, by feeder head with pressure foot and separation suckers as well as six adjustable forwarding suckers. Air ventilation from 3 sides and in addition two side blowers. The sheet infeed occurs by a transport shaft and timed infeed rollers. The sheet infeed can effect as a single sheet or shingled. Four-point suspended pile platform with lateral alignment of the pile and automatic reverse movement into the basic position for the change of the pallet. The pile plate may be lowered into the fl oor. But it is also possible to use a wedge above the fl oor for the infeed with a pallet (option). Pile height of 134 cm, incl. pallet.

A touchless ultra-sound double-sheet control combined with an ejec-tor for wasted sheets is optional available instead of the mechanical double-sheet control in the feeder.

AIRSTREAM register tableThe AIRSTREAM table and two vacuum alignment tapes which guide the sheets marking-free allow an extremely good sheet alignment at shorter set-up times. The lattice-type alignment table with the combination of the AIRSTREAM table at the drive side allows a fric-tion-free sheet transport. An air smoother bar system replaces the smoother bars.

Spiral foldrollersMBO spiral foldrollers coated with standard PU and HIGH-GRIP soft PU- a byword for best grip and low noise. No marking on sensitive papers and printings.

Belt drive systemThe MBO belt drive system throughout the entire machine combines effi ciency with quality. That’s the reason why this belt drive system is now also used at “large sizes” from MBO - for extremely quiet running, maintenance-free and with long life. Specially, heavy and increased sizes: this belt drive system has double support plates and a fl at belt with a width of 6 cm.

MULTIPLATE buckle platesThe new stainless-steel buckle plates from MBO with multi-functional setting possibility for folding units at working widths of 142 cm and 162 cm allow an operator-friendly operation from one side. Beside the setting of the folding length with its micro fi ne adjustment A , further settings are possible at the operator side of the folding machine, like for example: B the positioning as well as the pre-ten-sion of the lower plate lip, and the inner width of the buckle rails as well as C the clamping of buckle plates.

The MULTIPLATE buckle plates have swing defl ectors and a continuous sheet stop which also passes through the buckle rails. The advantage: the entire touch of the complete sheet’s front side at the stop.

A one-man operation is possible through pulling out or inserting the buckle plates by means of a pneumatic cylinder. Thus enables one person e.g. to swing in or out the defl ectors or to carry out other setting works. D

The subsequent folding units are equipped with the combination buckle plates COMBIPLATE: In the 0-zero position, the sheet stop works as a defl ector.

BSlitter shafts with plug bearingsThe slitter shafts are quickly removable through the plug bearings at all MBO machines. This allows a time-saving make-ready of the machine and enables the mounting of various special devices. The standard slitter shafts with Ø 60 mm can optional be replaced by ultra-light carbon slitter shafts, which enormously facilitates the mounting and dismounting. Conventional slitter shafts with a working width of 142 cm weigh approx. 30 kg, carbon slitter shafts, however, only 10 kg. Ø 60 mm at folding units with a working width of 102, 112, 142 and 162 cmØ 40 mm at folding units with a working width of 91 and 96 cmØ 35 mm at folding units with a working width of 56, 68 and 78 cm.

Pre-slitter shafts with plug bearings (option) A

With an additional pair of guide rollers, among others for special works in the section of mailing production.

Double rear-slitter shafts (option) B

Without pre-slitter shafts or in connection with pre-slitter shafts, advantageous for e.g. multiple perforations or for a better guidance of the products in case of edge trim. Pre- and double rear- slitter shafts are available for the folding units II and III (on request).

Slitter shaft cassette MWK (option)The retractable slitter shaft cassette MWK is also available for the “large sizes” from MBO. Especially at machines with a working width of over 100 cm, the slitter shaft cassette MWK is ergonomically and economically absolutely useful, also when using the ultra-light carbon slitter shafts. Without moving the subsequent folding units, and after pulling-out the cassette from the machine body, it is pos-sible to equip slitter shafts or to use a second pair of prepared slitter shafts in an ergonomically ideal position. The slitter shaft cassette MWK sees to shorter set-up times and faster availability of the fold-ing machine.

NAVIGATOR-ControlThe NAVIGATOR machine control is an updated, digitally microprocessor controlled technology integrating the machine control, production moni-toring, and machine adjustment into one management control system. It largely automates the folding process. The main points are the simplifi ed machine handling ensured by calibration- or learning functions and oper-ator guidance, error reduction in the production process by monitoring functions, and by integration into the digital workfl ow.

The NAVIGATOR machine control has been structured as an SPS technol-ogy, the data are transmitted by means of data bus technology CAN. The text and graphics are shown on a display. Sensors control the entire production sequence from the feeder to the delivery system. A productiv-ity pre-selection of sheets/hrs. sets all folding units automatically to the necessary speed and ideal sheet gaps.

Further advantages of the NAVIGATOR-Control are:• Safe from operational errors, as the control does not accept any faulty

inputs.• Graphical guiding by visual machine setting data in the display, all set-

ting data are automatically calculated. • Integrated folding imposition catalogue. • Automatic control of the pressure-/vacuum pump. • Frequency-controlled drives. • Tipping mode for the set-up function. • Integrated gatefold plate control. • Text display in the national language. • Operator- and service diagnosis. • Aside from the common standard functions such as effi ciency, speed,

number of batches etc. the integrated multi-functional batch counter also includes among other things a selection of various marking varia-tions for the delivery systems.

NAVIGATOR-Control with TOUCH SCREEN (option)The version TOUCH-SCREEN concerns a 15” colour monitor in the operat-ing terminal of the fi rst folding unit over which machine settings are carried out and machine data can be recalled. Besides the features of the NAVIGATOR-Control standard version the TOUCH-SCREEN contains an additional software for the visual operator guidance with the integrated folding imposition catalogue, which simplifi es and reduces the set-up process considerably. Signifi cant economic data for the machine statistic can be acquired and displayed, also production statistics through the job management. In addition, operating manuals, spare part lists, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic systems can also be displayed. The knowledge data base of folding technology and operator support is a very important feature for the operator.

Through a linkage to the MBO DATAMANAGER, it is possible to combine superior systems of operational- and set-up data, through CIP 3-4 or JDF, for the integration into a digital workfl ow.

RAPIDSET automation (option)Through the electronic set-up system RAPIDSET in connection with the digital machine control NAVIGATOR-Control, an automation of the folding machine is possible. The following elements are automated, i.e. adjusted by means of motors:AIRSTREAM register table and buckle plates – at the subsequent folding units: register sidelay and buckle plates.

Conveyor tablesConveyor tables are installed at the exit of folding units I and II for a better transfer of the products into the subsequent folding units. For machines with a slitter shaft cassette MWK (standard).For machines without a slitter shaft cassette MWK (option).

Ejector for double- and wasted sheets (option)In the conveyor table after folding unit I it is possible to integrate optional an ejector which is controlled through an ultra-sound double sheet control or through a sheet monitoring sensor (for double- and wasted sheets). Thus guarantees a trouble-free production without machine stop.

Folding units II, III, IVThe folding units are mobile, quick and easily moveable- without using any tools. They have an own drive with self-control to be used as a single folding unit and an own operator panel from which it is possible to operate the entire machine. Folding unit III alternatively can be equipped with a sheet-return-device RFE. Thus creates short routes between the feeder and the delivery for the operator.

Properly folded sheets are guided over.

Wasted sheets are optically recognized and ejected without machine stop.

Double and triple stream device (option)Through double/triple stream production a higher effi ciency can be achieved. It is possible to process signatures of 2 x 8, 2 x 12, 2 x 24 and 2 x 32 pages etc. when using a double-stream device in the fold-ing units II to IV. Also a triple stream production is possible. This one, however, will be designed depending on the project.

Sheet-return-device RFE (option)In the third folding unit the sheets are returned after the slitter shafts around the drum into the direction of the feeder. This creates a high operating convenience by short routes between the feeder and the delivery, and it allows a one-man machine operation.
