TRADITIONAL BLESSING OF CHILDREN

We implore Thee, almighty God, to bless + these children,

and we ask Thee to keep them in Thy love.

Strengthen their hearts by the power of Thy Holy Sprit, sanc-

tify their lives, foster their innocence.

Keep their minds intent on good, help them to prosper, give

them peace, health, and charity.

By Thy might and protection shield them always from

FROM DESK OF CANON RAPHAEL UEDA

I am now in St. Louis. This is the last time I will write "From the Desk of the Vicar". I have been pondering what to write for this last message to all of you. As I wrote in the last bulletin, my heart is still full of my many experiences in Chicago. Sometimes we lose the words to express ourselves, even though there

are many things to say within our hearts, so I will ask Our Lord to help me. "May Jesus purify our recollections of the past so that we can appreciate them according to their true value. May Jesus dissipate the clouds of anxi-ety and the fears in our hearts in the present. May Jesus show us the path which we need to follow for the fu-ture." You will always be in my prayers, and I ask that you please keep me in yours. God bless you all!

FAREWELL RECEPTION FOR CANON UEDA

On Sunday, September 30, you are invited to a farewell reception after 10am Solemn High Mass for Canon Raph-ael Ueda, who has been assigned to St. Francis de Sales Oratory in St. Louis. Monsignor Schmitz will also be pre-sent. Let us show our grateful appreciation to Canon Ueda for his years of service at the Shrine! We look for-ward to welcoming his successor, Canon Michael Stein, later in October. Volunteers are needed to bring a dish & to help with the preparations and clean-up. Thank you!

ARCHBISHOP, FRANCIS

CARDINAL GEORGE

The Auxiliary Bishops of Chicago have asked for our prayers for the intention of the Cardinal's health and healing as he undergoes chemotherapy during the next four months. They have asked us to

pray especially to the Servant of God, Father Augustus Tol-ton, using the prayer which is available on the sheets in the church vestibule. On Thursday, October 4, Feast of the Cardinal’s Patron, St. Francis of Assisi, Holy Mass and prayers will be offered for His Eminence at 7pm.
