Research reveals trend of young goingabroad because of country’s lack of jobsThousands of young people are jettingabroad in search of adventure amid seri-ous concerns over the state of the Britishjobs market.Among those aged 18 to 30 going over-
seas to work, 43 per cent say they areseeking adventure, 21 per cent aspire towork abroad and 36 per cent had simplyhad enough of Britain.One of the main reasons for the exodus
abroad among young people was the con-tinuing poor state of the jobs market withmore than half (54 per cent) describing itas ‘bad’.The research, carried out by youth
travel and work organisation SmallerEarth UK, went on to highlight how just28 per cent thought the current UK jobssituation to be ‘good’.Smaller Earth UK placed more than
6,000 young adults on its Camp Leadersprogramme in the United States in 2013,an increase of almost 20 per cent on the
previous year.The organisation is also seeing growing
interest in other parts of the world, witha 243 per cent rise in the number of ap-plications from people to work as au pairsin China.Other countries in which Smaller Earth
UK operates include Canada, Australia,New Zealand, Spain, Czech Republic andVietnam.The survey of 1,000 young people aged
18 to 30 highlighted how 65 per cent hada clear idea about their future career, butfelt that the opportunity to work and trav-el overseas would enhance their prospectsof competing in the employment market.Smaller Earth UK chief executive Bas-
