President’s Report
October is here and we are still working on nominations for officers for the coming year. Please respond positively when you are contacted about volunteering your time and efforts for "the good of the order". Activate yourself-- get involved in your lodge. It is also time to think about the statewide election coming in November---please do your part and vote to give yourself a say about our political scene.
It was good to get back to our socials for the year and we heard all about the district and international conventions. This month our social will feature our annual auction sale and we are asking you to donate items, if they might be Norwegian items like sweaters-- antiques-- or other items of values such as silver gold. American antiques of new items and Norwegian foods like Krumkake, Sandbakkels, etc. Please call me if you have questions about what to donate. Rich 222 2274 or 391 5272. Last year we raised over $1,500 and I’ll bet we can beat that number this year.
Jerry Saude was also instrumental in getting "The Trolleri Players " back to entertain at several schools and also the Salvation Army afterschool program. They were on the way again the Høstfest in Minot. Belinda and I are going to make it to the Høstfest this year and are really looking forward to all of the Scandinavian food -- displays of Norwegian items and the great entertainment. We are so fortunate to have this Norwegian event happen so close to Bismarck
School supplies were donated last month at our social and were distributed among several schools and Salvation Army school program they are always very well appreciated . We also took up a donation of cash for extra school supplies. Thanks to all who participated in these programs. It makes us all feel good to give some of our blessings. Jerry Saude also had our Sons of Norway float in the parade in Bismarck last week--very well attended.
Ralph Feland is working to put together a wood turning class in the near future. This would be a no charge class and sponsored by our lodge. All of you interested in woodworking please contact Ralph at 663-8569. The wood items these wood turners make are so beautiful. I wish I had this talent. Also don't forget the Rosemaling class we are working to put together, see info elsewhere in Nyheter.
Thanks to Erling and Ruth Olson for bringing dessert for our last social in honor of their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Belinda and I are bringing a treat for October’s dinner. Don't forget to vote. Rich Fadness--President

Is today a good day to die?
This past few years I have lost many loved ones and friends. I’m sure you have
too. Because of the work I do with you and Sons of Norway, I think beyond
the loss of the friendship, love and joy that person shared with many. I
wonder, were their affairs in order? Would they be happy with how they left
things behind after leaving this earth? They almost never are.
This is where your Sons of Norway’s Financial Benefit Counselors come in.
Let us do what we do best. Let us do our part to be sure that for anybody,
anywhere, any day could be a good day to die.

October Birthdays
Gratulerer Med Dagen {Congratulations on Your Day}
Cultural Classes Rosemal painting is a unique Norwegian folk art. In
Norway it was dominated by men but in America it is an art form for
everyone with a desire to learn. An acclaimed Gold Medal painter, Joan Varty
from Minot has agreed to come down and conduct a beginner class this
fall. The class will be limited to 10 individuals. You must be at least 15 years
old to take this class. You will need nothing but a good attitude and $25 to
take the class. Please contact the lodge if you are interested. We need 8-10
people to express and interest and will schedule the weekend class (Friday
night and Saturday morning) later this fall. Your input will help with the
scheduling.. Contact Jerry Saude for more information
Norwegian Class A lodge member has been expressed an interest in
teaching a beginners Norwegian Language class to be offered this winter/
spring. It will likely meet in the evenings or a Saturday morning once a
week. Call or sign up at the socials if you would consider enrolling. We need
a count for the instructor to plan ahead.

Sverdrup Lodge Sponsored the
Trolleri Players at Elementary
Schools September 25 Nearly 200 students giggled, laughed and seem to take in the lesson on being yourself while attending the program brought to them by the Trolleri Players. It's a classic Scandinavian tale about two princesses switched at birth. One's a troll and the other a human. Both learn to live in a world very different from their own. "Here in North Dakota there's a lot of kids with Scandinavian heritage. So this is really a story that belongs to them," explained Rose Arrowsmith DeCoux, a Trolleri Players member. Laughter and smiles weren't in short supply. The tale taught the third, fourth and fifth-graders how to be comfortable with themselves regardless of the situation.
