President’s Report

October is here and we are still working on nominations for officers for the coming year. Please respond positively when you are contacted about volunteering your time and efforts for "the good of the order". Activate yourself-- get involved in your lodge. It is also time to think about the statewide election coming in November---please do your part and vote to give yourself a say about our political scene.

Is today a good day to die?

This past few years I have lost many loved ones and friends. I’m sure you have

too. Because of the work I do with you and Sons of Norway, I think beyond

the loss of the friendship, love and joy that person shared with many. I

wonder, were their affairs in order? Would they be happy with how they left

things behind after leaving this earth? They almost never are.

This is where your Sons of Norway’s Financial Benefit Counselors come in.

Let us do what we do best. Let us do our part to be sure that for anybody,

anywhere, any day could be a good day to die.

October Birthdays

Gratulerer Med Dagen {Congratulations on Your Day}

Cultural Classes Rosemal painting is a unique Norwegian folk art. In

Norway it was dominated by men but in America it is an art form for

everyone with a desire to learn. An acclaimed Gold Medal painter, Joan Varty

from Minot has agreed to come down and conduct a beginner class this

fall. The class will be limited to 10 individuals. You must be at least 15 years

old to take this class. You will need nothing but a good attitude and $25 to

take the class. Please contact the lodge if you are interested. We need 8-10

people to express and interest and will schedule the weekend class (Friday

night and Saturday morning) later this fall. Your input will help with the

scheduling.. Contact Jerry Saude for more information

Norwegian Class A lodge member has been expressed an interest in

teaching a beginners Norwegian Language class to be offered this winter/

spring. It will likely meet in the evenings or a Saturday morning once a

week. Call or sign up at the socials if you would consider enrolling. We need

a count for the instructor to plan ahead.

Sverdrup Lodge Sponsored the

Trolleri Players at Elementary

Schools September 25 Nearly 200 students giggled, laughed and seem to take in the lesson on being yourself while attending the program brought to them by the Trolleri Players. It's a classic Scandinavian tale about two princesses switched at birth. One's a troll and the other a human. Both learn to live in a world very different from their own. "Here in North Dakota there's a lot of kids with Scandinavian heritage. So this is really a story that belongs to them," explained Rose Arrowsmith DeCoux, a Trolleri Players member. Laughter and smiles weren't in short supply. The tale taught the third, fourth and fifth-graders how to be comfortable with themselves regardless of the situation.
