FEBRUARY 1944 Dear .Miss Call: '!his is to inform you that my son, Corporal Bernard J. Burger, died on November 7th from injuries received in the North African Area. Let me thank you for any- thing you may have sent him to cheer him up while he was fighting for his country. He was only 24 years old and entered the Army on October 22nd_. He left in April of 1943 for overseas duty but never was granted a furlough. So it is with deep regret that I must inform you not to forward any more mail to him. Miss Penhall, teacher of the third and fourth grades and resident of Mine Hill, married Mr. Cole. After elaborate preparations were made for a party for the disabled merchant marine from the Cutting Hospital, the medical commission ruled that they could not be taken from the hospital. various members of the town were planning to entertain them at dinner and then the group was to be taken to the scout cabin where a talent show was to be presented. ----------------- Wally and Winnie Coons have moved to Bernardsville. They have cottage on the Shannon Lodge Estate right next door to Tommy Dorsey.. Lots of music in them thar hillsl Irene Hoffman was working for a while in Epstein's office and she is now employ- ed in the office at Roxbury.     Evelyn Fleming has moved and received an advancement .. She is now the Field Director of the American Red Cross at Nichols G-eneral Hospital, Louisville 2, Kentucky. She wonders where we got the picture of her brother, Ed, and is surprised how fat he has become. She doesn't know that was an ordinary photo of Ed with a uniform put on him by an artist, and an officer's uniform, at that! Ed came to see me durine the holidays and we had a mighty pleasant chat. He is still waiting to begin his really strenuous training for -pilot .. ------The new postoffice is

    a beauty. They moved in on Christmas weekend. It is just like Morristown post-office. Bus Crum promised to take a picture of it for you. Of course you know it use to be Mack's Store. The front is all p-ainted, a beautiful new flag is in the window.
