Monthly newsletter for all members of the green house network

Welcome to the first edition of Supply Talk. To say the last 6 months have been a rollercoaster would be understatedAs most of you know when I first joined the company in September 2008, we had huge reliance on the nationals, yet as I write this, we have a Supply Chain that spans the UK, using privately owned businesses with local knowledge, that is invaluable.

We have come a long way in a short time. Whilst getting round to see you all and introduce myself, has been time consuming, my philosophy to ‘do things the right way’ I think is starting to pay dividends. Many of you have been very complimentary about us here at the green house. To get such positive feedback when we do try so hard to conduct ourselves in a professional manner and treat our

Suppliers with respect is a great foundation to further build on

Are you getting the best price for your recyclables?Did you know that at the green house we have a Trader, Kim Birtwistle. Her role is focussed entirely at getting the best prices for bulk material. Whilst we have seen a collapse over the past year or so, on some recycled markets, we are confident that we can better the price you are currently receiving for the selling of bulk material

Call Kim on 01604 808 703 to discuss earning more today or email her at [email protected]

the green house partners with leading logistics networkthe green house has teamed up with leading logistics network, Pall-Ex to form Eco-Pall, a cost-effective Recycling Take-back service that will see Pall-Ex members collecting cardboard and plastic wrapping materials from customers

Adrian Russell, Pall-Ex’s managing director, commented: “From an environmental point of view, this system has a number of benefits and will go some way to reducing carbon footprints. “Collecting waste materials at the same time as delivering goods, means that the network is even more environmentally friendly and the customer does not need to pay a separate fee to have the waste removed by somebody else.”

The scheme is being trialled by Pall-Ex Nottingham, Mini Clipper Limited, based in Leighton Buzzard, J Long & Sons Limited, based in Leeds. And CJ Express Limited, based in Hull

Network members taking part in the scheme will return recyclable waste to their depot, where it will be baled using specialist equipment supplied to them

Adrian continued: “By collecting packaging materials, members will be solving a number of issues for their customers and have a positive impact on their environmental policies – something that should please customers and shareholders alike.”

If you collect large amounts of recycling material the green house could get you revenue for it

Meet the teamThis month Gemma Lovatt, Roll Out Co-ordinator

To ensure that we always provide our Suppliers with the accurate detailed information they require when we win a new account, we formed the Roll out Team

Their job is to co-ordinate the roll outs and ensure that this runs without problem for both the customer and the supplier

We think that by creating this specialist department will help build relationships and ensure we become champions of the roll out procedure

Length of time with the green houseAlmost one year

Best thing about the green houseThe team, everyone works really hard and we all get on really well, it’s enjoyable coming to work with such nice people

Most challenging aspect of your jobThe challenging aspects of my job is making sure everything happens on the correct date, bin/bags are delivered on time so service starts of on the correct date and the customer is happy, also working to strict deadlines and being able to manage more than one roll-out at one time

Collaborations

We are always keen to encourage innovative use and application of things related to our industry and we have collaborated with a number of people around the UK who do amazing things with waste!

This month we feature artist Nicky Ward from Derbyshire who travels the world and creates landscapes using waste she finds at the location

In Nicky’s words: “I use recycled fragments mixed with paint, glue and stitching to create energetic and intricate collages. Often they are based on places I have visited, incorporating tickets and scraps from my handbag”

We have a number of Nicky’s pieces on display at the green house including a brilliant picture of San Fransico. All her works are for sale and if anyone is interested in buying Nicky’s art they should contact us at the green house

Supplier of the MonthWhilst we have yet to develop the reporting function on our CRM system to enable us to provide our Suppliers with real-time monthly service reports, we still track our Suppliers performance, via customer feedback

I want to wish South Coast Skips huge congratulations for wining our Supplier of the Month for April. South Coast Skips are a relatively new addition to our Supply Chain and have approached our new working relationship with fantastic attitude, high level customer service and have consistently performed with everything they have undertaken for the green house

I would also like to single out and thank Nigel Fisher for all his efforts in ensuring all transactions and general enquiries have been dealt with swiftly and efficiently. You already have many fans at the green house

Supplier Workshops

Training and Development are key words here at the green house. We invest heavily in our staff to ensure that everyone has the tools and opportunity to excel in their role. However, one thing we haven’t done to date is hold Supplier Workshops

We view all of our Supplier Relationships as crucial components of our business but just as essential is the relationship that exists between our suppliers and every part of the green house’s business from accounts to customer services

I would like to invite all of our Suppliers to our Head Office in Northampton to showcase their business and services. I think would be a really useful tool in introducing yourselves, for many, staff at the green house would have only ever spoken to you on the phone. It would also serve as an opportunity to highlight any additional services that you may offer

If you wish to conduct a Supplier Workshop at the green house, please contact Ross Simons at [email protected]

New Client News

Welcome to...

Sally SalonsWe are pleased to announce that Sally Salon Services have joined the green house family on a three year

term. With over 300 sites across the UK

Sally’s is the UK’s largest supplier of professional hair and beauty products. They aspire to increase recycling rates whilst driving down the cost of their waste disposal so the green house was the obvious choice. We are all looking forward to working with the team at Sally’s over the next three years and beyond!

The Body ShopStarting on the 1st May 2009 the green house begins its rollout of services at over 100 The Body Shop retail stores in the UK. Focusing on

recycling services the green house is responsible for the management of all waste and recycling services for The Body Shop including a new programme for difficult waste streams such as faulty product lines and organic waste

The Body Shop is one of the most prestigous names in UK retail from an environmental point of view and winning this contract is a good testament to the green house services

Buying Group

New opportunities As some of you know, by Partnering the green house enables you to gain exclusive access to our Buying Group. The setup of this facility came about for two reasons

Firstly, it is obvious that none of our Suppliers have the same buying power as the Nationals due to size and economies of scale, yet all of you purchase the same equipment to run your businesses. By amalgamating that spend we will have the same buying power as the largest Waste Disposal providers in the UK

Secondly, I have mentioned before in this newsletter that I intend to do things differently and bring things to the Waste Industry and our Suppliers that sets us apart from anyone else. I have hand selected some of you to receive a questionnaire. Within this questionnaire is some basic questions based upon the products you purchase, quantities and costing. This will provide me with benchmark information and we will begin negotiations with Suppliers straight away in order to create you all some significant savings
