Mr. Topping, a Wainscott farm- er , served as Democratic supervi- sor of East Hampton fiom 1953 through 1957. RIVERHEAD NOMINEES The Riverhead Republican Club Committee , meeting Friday night at the Moose Hall off Riverside Drive , nominated attor ney J. Leo Saxstien as their candidate to op- pose Democ i atic Supervisor AVil- liam J. Leonard in the November election. Also nominated were several of- fice holders in bids for re-election and tow other men for offices held by Democratc officials. Incum- bents nominated were Councilman Elmer Stotsky ; Justice of the Pei'ce Thomas R. Costello; Super- intendent of Hig hways Ted Zem- bko ; Town Assessor Howard Wells and Receiver of Taxes Charles Alan Hoi ton. Saxstien , Stotsky and Costello will also have their names on tne individual Rights Association Bal- lot Line. Two years ago Saxstien ran for supervisor on the Indivi- lual Rights Association ' s anti-zon- ing platform and received tbout 1.100 votes. In accep ting the nomination Fi idav night , Saxstien admitted he had been aganst zoning. "I have studied zoning fiom many angles. . .1 know of its advanta- ges and disadvanages ," he said. "But , the- disadvantages outweigii the advantages. How ever ," he said, "that is my per sonal opinion. ' Saxstien said his only quarre l with the Town Boards action two j ears ago when they adopted a zoning oidinancc " is that they should have let the major ity of the peop le decide. " Saxstien , in concluding, said if elected , he " will fight 'King ' Dennison ( County Executive H. Lee Dennison) and his waste and extravagance. " Saxstien said he w ould battle with Dennison on the w etlands acquisition program , and Denmson ' s other piograms. Thursday night , the Town Dem- ocratic Committee , meeting at the Court Restaurant , nominated Su- pervisor Leonard for re-election to a fourth two-year term , and se- lected the remainder of their can- didates. Other Democratic candidates named were : Attorney Robert Tooker for justice of the peace : foimer Councilman John Benedict ior councilman; Alex Hoi ton for superintendent of highways; Louis Setek for receiver of taxes; and James Kaelin for assessor. Incumbents named along with Leonard for re-election are Tow n Clerk Anthony Gadzinski and As- sessor J. Wilson Stout. Leonard promised a hard , clean campaign , stating, "I have alw ays had the best interests of the tax- payers at heait , and will contin- ue to do so if I am re-elected." Leonard has opposed many oi Dennison ' s programs at Boar d of Supervisor s' meetings , and has al so registered his opposition to Dennison 's wetlands program. -1- i !- GOP CHAIRMAN Edward McGowan , 42-year-old Brightvva- ters realtor , was unanimously el- ected chairman of the Tow n of Islip Republican Committee last week. Gross , Islip town clerk , as vice-chairman ; Mrs. Miriam T. Anzell , Suffolk County Women ' s Republican club chairman , as se- cretary and Donald A. Mates , Say- ville realtor , as treasurer. The meeting of 172 committee- men was held at the Isli p Ameri- can Legion Hall and was adjourn- ed out of respect to the late W Kingsland Macy, a foimer town and county leader , and S. Thursday night , the Town Dem-ocratic Committee, meeting at theCourt Restaurant, nominated Su-pervisor Leonard for re-election toa fourth two-year term , and se-lected the remainder of thei r can-didates.

Other Democratic candidatesnamed were : Attorney RobertTooker for justice of the peace :fo imer Councilman John Benedictior councilman; Alex Hoi ton forsuperintendent of highways; LouisSetek for receiver of taxes; andJames Kaelin for assessor.

Incumbents named along withLeonard for re-election are Tow nClerk Anthony Gadzinski and As-sessor J. Wilson Stout.

Leonard promised a hard , cleancampaign, stating, "I have alw ayshad the best interests of the tax-payers at heai t , and will contin-ue to do so if I am re-elected."

Leonard has opposed many oiDennison 's programs at Boar d ofSupervisor s' meetings, and has also registered his opposition toDennison 's wetlands program.
