O Lord and Master of my life, do not permit me the

spirit of laziness, despair, lust of power, and idle

talk. But give, rather, the spirit of chastity, humility,

patience and love to Your servant. O Lord and King,

grant me to see my own transgressions and not to

judge my brother, for blessed are You unto ages of

ages. Amen.

Sitting at the Right Hand of Christ

And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came

forward to Jesus, and said to him, “Teacher, we

want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.”

And he said to them, “What do you want me to do

for you?” And they said to him, “Grant us to sit,

one at your right hand and one at your left, in

your glory.” But Jesus said to them, “You do not

know what you are asking. Are you able to drink

the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the

baptism with which I am baptized?” And they said

to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them,

“The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the

baptism with which I am baptized, you will be

baptized; but to sit at my right hand or at my left

is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it

has been prepared.” (Mark 10:35-40)

“The disciples, not knowing what they asked for,

wanted to be on the right hand and the left hand

of Jesus when he comes in glory. What such a

request actually entails is revealed when we see

Jesus positioned, or rather enthroned, between

two thieves, one on his right hand and the other

on his left, on the Cross. Christ comes into his

glory on the Cross. This demolishes all our

conceptions of what glory is, all our assumptions

about honor and power. Indeed, it turns on its

head our image of who and what God is: God is

not a despot who exercises his power by imposing

his will, who glorifies in the subservience of his

subjects, or who responds to their petty requests.

No, God reveals his power in weakness, his

wisdom in folly, his glory on the Cross, and his

irresistibly will in the love he makes manifest in

this way. … Jesus specifically says: the Son of

man came to serve and give his life as a ransom

for all, and so whoever would be the first must be

the slave of all. (Matthew 20:27-28”)

Дух служіння допомагає стати

милосердними

Дорогі браття і сестри, ось ми далі смиренно наближуємося докінця Святого Посту ”Діл милосердя”. День за днем, добрий вчинок за добрим вчинком! Це важливо малими кроками йти дорогою до святості. Ця дорога завершується в Божому Царстві, Царстві Отця. У цьому царстві будуть лише діти Божі. Кожна дитина подібна до батьків. У Божому Царстві будуть ті, котрі подібні до Бога.

Суперечка апостолів показує реальність людини, що хоче бути вищою над іншими. Чому є ця постійна боротьба за вищість, за першість? Можливо тому, що хочемо бути певними, що буде добре тоді, коли саме ми будемо мати контроль над життям. Адже, коли ми є слугами, тоді маємо мало певності, що виконаються саме наші бажання і так, як ми цього хочемо. Цей страх багатьох спонукає до боротьби за першість, за вищість у сім’ї, у колі друзів, на роботі і т.д. Навіть в простих розмовах.

Інколи бажання бути першими може відхилити нас від Євангелія. Так стались розколи в сім’ях, так ставались розколи в Церкві. В погоні за тим, щоб стати вище над іншими, ми втрачаємо головне – бути учнем Христа, жити в наслідуванні Його прикладу. Уважаймо: коли в нас немає бажання служити один одному, і хочеться, щоб хтось навпаки служив нам, тоді ми хочемо бути панами: влади, слави, збагачення…

Молитва св. Єфрема

Господи і Владико життя мого! Духа лінивства, недбайливости, властолюбя і пустомовства віджени від мене. Духа чистоти, покори, терпеливости й любови даруй мені, слузі твоєму. Так Господи, Царю, дай мені бачити гріхи мої і не осуджувати брата мого, бо ти благословенний на віки вічні. Амінь.

Ісус нам показав інший приклад, хоч Його і називали Учитель, Господь. В Його житті було велике бажання служити Отцеві і служити людям. Ісус жив виконанням волі Отця, у послусі Йому та в служінні людям. Тепер Він чекає того самого від нас. Ми пішли за Христом, тому Дух Христа сильніший від егоїстичного духу світу, що спонукає нас ділитися на рабів і на панів. Ми маємо бути братами і сестрами і служити один одному в дусі Любові. Завдяки цьому ми можемо бути переможцями цього світу і його грішної ментальності. Завдяки цьому Милосердя буде панувати і надихати нас на щодень. Коли ми живемо за прикладом Христа, питання про те, хто перший і кращий, уже не стоїть. Стоїть питання правильного служіння, виконання Божої волі, заповідей.

А панувати ми маємо над землею і над гріховними бажаннями тіла, Бог дав кожному з нас таку владу. Не маємо панувати один над одним. Ми повинні творити такі товариства людей, які хочуть служити один одному. Об’єднані ми зможемо бачити нужди інших людей – потребуючих. В іншому випадку боротьба за вищість і першість нас буде постійно виснажувати.

Христос показав нам приклад служіння усім, хто потребує нашої допомоги. Бажання бути слугою дає нам сили і бажання виконувати те, для чого нас покликав Спаситель. Господи, учини нас бути умілими виконавцями волі Отця, подай нам духа служіння, щоб наслідуючи твій приклад ми ще більше зблизились один з одним, щоб бажання взаємного служіння стало початком і кінцем нашого шляху покаяння. Амінь.

Reflection on Divine Mercy with Saint Faustina

The Arms of God

When a child is frightened or gets hurt, the natu-ral place of comfort is the arms of a parent. This is the first thing a crying child looks for. So it must be with us. The arms of our Father in Heav-en, and Jesus our Savior, are what we must run to in our need. We should not hesitate to turn to God in all things, especially when tempted to despair, or when we recognize our weakness and sin (See Diary #505).

When burdens weigh you down, or when you get angry or are tempted to despair, where do you turn? Some turn to sinful fleshly comforts, others to harsh words, and others run to God. Run to God in every moment! Ideally, we run to Him when life is good and when we are filled with great joy and consolation. But God also wants us to run to Him, immediately, when life is hard. Make the arms of God the first thing you think about when you find yourself in need.

Lord, I do run to You. I pray that I will daily build a habit of running to You in all things. I pray that I will turn to You with my every need. I cling to You, Divine Lord, and seek to rely upon You always.
