Liturgical Cycle A

The Shepherd’s Perspective

Prior to sharing with everyone the latest precautions being mandated by the Diocese when it comes to coronavirus, I just want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your generous support and contribution to our ‘Brown Bagging for Kids’ initiative! During our festive evening of Friday, February 14—which included a wonderful meal provided by Raj Palace along with music and dance, WE RAISED OVER $7100 FOR THIS VERY IMPORTANT FORM OF OUTREACH. The funds raised will assist us in providing lunches for children in our schools for up to one year’s time. Thank you for your generous support!

With the World Health Organization now officially classifying the Coronavirus as a pandemic reality, please note that the Diocese of Calgary continues to monitor directives issued by the Alberta Health Services.

At this time, Bishop McGrattan is requesting that the following be implemented immediately in every parish across the diocese:

• At the SIGN OF PEACE, refrain from shaking hands — a simple bow, nod, or “Peace be with you” to your neighbour is appropriate.

• Baptismal and Holy Water fonts are to be emptied and are to be sanitized with water and bleach.

• Holy Communion will only be distributed under the body of Christ. (HOST)

• ONLY PRIESTS are to consume the Precious Blood.

• ONLY PRIESTS will distribute Holy Communion to those who choose to receive on the tongue

• at a designated area apart from the main aisle. PLEASE GATHER by the Organ IF YOU ARE TO RECEIVE OUR BLESSED LORD ON THE TONGUE.

• Those who choose to receive Holy Communion in the hand will be asked to approach Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.

• Any Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who are uncomfortable with distributing Holy Communion will be excused from this ministry.

These measures are EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY and will remain in place until notified otherwise by the Diocese. Please continue to practice healthy hygiene — wash your hands with soap or use hand sanitizer regularly, remain at home if you are sick, sneeze or cough into your sleeve, and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

Please care for yourselves and your loved ones as we continue to pray for all those affected worldwide by the coronavirus.

In Christ,

Fr. Jerome

Dear Parishioners of the Diocese,

Thank you for being a partner in compassion! People and families access Hospice Calgary to find expert help, make connections with peers, and build hope. When they come to us, we meet them with the promise to have difficult conversations about death, dying, and grief and to respond to their needs with compassion.

Your gift makes a difference — you help our patients and clients feel connected — you help create an environment of care and support!

Your support helps people like Doug:

“I can now envision the counselling support my wife, children and grandchildren will receive, and I can concentrate on living, not dying. Despite our shared journey nearing its end, I have learned to put my energy into life and legacy instead of concern and worry.”

Thank you for being a community champion and helping people in very challenging times. We are so grateful for your generosity.

Sincerely, Fiona McColl Interim Executive Director Sage Centre | Rosedale Hospice | Children’s Grief Centre

ANNOUNCEMENTS

3rd Sunday in Lent March 14/15, 2020

PREVENTING THE SPREAD OF COVID-19

The Diocese of Calgary continues to monitor Alberta Health Services directives and our local situation regarding active cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19). At this time, Bishop McGrattan is requesting that all parishes immediately implement the following measures:

• At the Sign of Peace, refrain from shaking hands – a simple bow, nod, or “Peace be with you” to your neighbour is appropriate.

• Baptismal and Holy Water fonts are to be emptied and are to be sanitized with water and bleach.

• Holy Communion will only be distributed under the Body of Christ (Host).

Only priests may distribute Holy Communion to those who choose to receive on their tongue at a designated area apart from the main aisle. Note: It has been shared by some public health experts that there is no indication of increased risk of infection in receiving the host either on the tongue or in the hand.

Those who choose to receive Holy Communion in the hand will be asked to approach the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion or a priest who is not distributing Communion to those receiving on the tongue.

• Only priests are to consume the Precious Blood.

• Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who feel uncomfortable distributing Holy Communion should be excused from this ministry.

Please also continue to practise healthy hygiene – wash your hands with soap or use hand sanitizer regularly, remain at home if you are sick, sneeze or cough into your sleeve, and avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Let us continue to care for ourselves and one another as we pray for all those affected worldwide by COVID-19.

These measures are effective immediately and will remain in place until notified otherwise by the Diocese.
