Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Next Thursday is the 4th of July. We
celebrate our Independence as a Nation.
We celebrate our Freedom which has
come at great cost and which is still at
risk in so many ways both from without
and from within. Freedom is often taken
for granted. It is misunderstood and
abused in so many ways. How is it that we are truly free? What is it
that defines us not only as a Nation but
as free men and women individually?
What does it mean when we say: “I am
free”? We have been created in the image of
God and thus with a free will, but the very
fact that we are created indicates that
our free will has limits. We are dependent
on our Creator and must act in
accordance with His design for us. We
are not free to do whatever we want and
the abuse of our freedom makes us
slaves so often of our passions. God created us free so that we could
respond to His love with real love. He
made us free so that we could do what is
right and honest and just. He made us
free so that we can be the best that we
can be by the choices we make to do
what is good and true. We are only truly
free when we live in obedience to our
Creator and love as He has loved us, but it
is up to us to make the choice to freely do
God’s Will so that we can truly be free.
We are responsible for our freedom. Let’s
make God proud of us by using it well for
the reasons He gave it to us. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Thomas Bennett
FROM THE PASTOR
No somos
verdaderamente libres. Somos responsables
de nuestra libertad. ¡Hagamos feliz a Dios,
dio! Sinceramente en Cristo, Padre Thomas Bennett
