LANGUAGE ARTS

SUMMER READING REQUIREMENTS

2018

Dear Trinity Middle Schoolers (Grades 5-8):

This summer’s required reading for all middle schoolers is Out of My Mind

by Sharon M. Draper. As you read, think of how society includes and/or

excludes people with physical challenges. In September, each student will

take a brief comprehension test on the book the first full week of school.

We will discuss the book in small groups as well as participate in a variety of

activities based on the book.

Each student is also required to read three (3) additional books of his/her

choice. Some things to consider:

Challenge yourself to read a book in a “new-to-you” genre.

Ask the librarian for suggestions of currently popular books.

Read a classic you’ve heard of, but never read. (The librarian can help

you with this!)

Write the title, author and number of pages for the books you read on the

list on the back of this letter. Submit the list to your language arts teacher

during the first week of school. Be sure to have a parent sign the list at the

bottom.

We are looking forward to having a lively dialogue in the fall. Enjoy your

summer!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Walker, Ms. Blackert &

Mrs. Hutton
