SUMMER HOLIDAY HOMEWORK 2021 - 22

CLASS –XI

Dear Students,

“The anxious and unusual times bring unforeseen difficulties but the best of human nature can rise to the challenge.” We all have within us the strength, the patience and the passion to reach the stars to change the world. Let’s not fear change; embrace it. Life is all about moving on, accepting changes and looking forward to what makes us more adaptable and stronger. The Summer Break is scheduled from 14th May to 31st May 2021. Let’s not forget that this year vacations are not meant to explore the world outside but present an opportunity to rediscover ourselves while staying home and being safe. Summer Vacation has always been considered to be the most desirable period looked forward by children when they can go beyond academics but let’s not make it a challenging situation clouded with the gloominess of Corona Pandemic. So, embark on a journey of fun and adventure by reading books, exercising, meditating, dancing and channelizing your energy in a positive manner. In addition, maintain the momentum and rigour that has been built in the learning through the last year. Plan out and complete the holiday homework. In addition, revise the syllabus already completed and check the dates for Periodic Test – 1and make earnest and sincere preparation for the same. So during this unique break when you are homebound, be a source of support and help to your parents, be positive, focused, self disciplined and do live life with enthusiasm and zeal.

Mental preparation for upcoming session

GO THROUGH THE FOLLOWING PORTIONS IF YOU UNDERDSTAND OR DO NOT UNDERSTAND

• Know the parallelogram law of vector addition

• Know the triangle law of vector

• Know how to find the relative velocity

• Know the unit vectors

• Know the dot product of two vectors

• Know the Newton’s laws of Motion

• Know the measurement of force

• Know the conservation of linear momentum

Revision Work

• Know how to find average speed of an accelerating body.

• Go through the kinematic equations of motion.

• Know how to plot a velocity-time graph of a body in uniform acceleration and derive 𝑆 = 𝑢𝑡 + 1 𝑎𝑡22 from the graph.

• Also know how to derive 𝑣2 −𝑢2 = 2𝑎𝑆 and 𝑣 = 𝑢 + 𝑎𝑡.

(Consider the symbols 𝑆, 𝑢, 𝑣, 𝑎𝑡 in the above equations have their usual meanings.)

Understanding And Application

1) A balloon starts rising from the ground with an acceleration of 1.25m/s2. After 8s, a stone is released from the

balloon. Find the time the stone will take to reach the ground. (Take g = 10 m/s2)

2) A ball is dropped and its displacement vs time graph is as shown in the figure below (displacement x is from

ground and all quantities are +ve upwards).

Plot the velocity vs time graph for the ball.

3) below. Find the maximum speed of the particle.

4) The water drops fall at regular intervals from a tap 5 m above the ground. The third drop is leaving the tap at

instant the first drop touches the ground. How tar above the ground is the second drop at that instant?

5) A car accelerates from rest at a constant rate of 3 ms−2 for some time. Then it retards at a constant rate of 6

ms-2 and comes to rest. If the total time for which it remains in motion is 3 seconds. What is the total distance

travelled?

Instructions: The solutions of the APPLICATION AND UNDERSTANDING to be written in a piece of paper and to be

uploaded in the respective Google classroom. Please note that the solution to be uploaded as a single pdf file.

A. Basic concepts of chemistry

2. Practice the numericals and problems done in the class from the chapter:

B. Basic concepts of chemistry

3. Solve the following questions:

a. What weight of Calcium contains the same number of atoms as are present in 3.2 g of

sulphur?

b. An antifreeze solution is prepared from 222.6 g of ethylene glycol [C2H4(OH)2] and 200 g

g/ml , then what shall be the molarity of the solution?

c. 1 gm of magnesium is burnt with 0.56 gm O2 in a closed vessel. Which reactant is left in

excess and how much? (At. wt of Mg = 24)

d. An alkaloid contains 17.28 % of nitrogen and its molecular mass is 162. What is the

number of nitrogen atoms present in one molecule of the alkaloid?

e. A mixture of ethane (C2H6) and ethene (C2H4) occupies 40L at 1.00 atm and at 400K.
