The total number of cross line if the cross line spacing is 5 times of sounding line spacing 4. The total distance of cross line 5. If the turning distance between lines is 15% of the total run line distance and the survey speed is 5 knots, how many hours are required for sounding? 1. Number of Sounding Line = 5000 m coastal ÷ 20 m sounding line spacing = 250 lines + 1 lines begin = 251 lines 2. Total Sounding Distance = 2 km seaward x 251 sounding lines = 502 km 3. Number of Cross Lines = 5 times sounding line spacing = 5 x 20 m = 100 = Length of sounding distance (seaward), 2 km = 2000 m = (2000 m ÷ 100 m) + 1 lines = 21 lines

QUESTION

Survey Area is 2 km to seaward and 5 km along the coast. The final scale is 1 : 2000

Calculate:

1. The total number of sounding line

2. The total sounding distance

3. The total number of cross line if the cross line spacing is 5 times of sounding line

spacing

4. The total distance of cross line

5. If the turning distance between lines is 15% of the total run line distance and the

survey speed is 5 knots, how many hours are required for sounding?

1. Number of Sounding Line

= 5000 m coastal ÷ 20 m sounding line

spacing

= 250 lines + 1 lines begin

= 251 lines

2. Total Sounding Distance

= 2 km seaward x 251 sounding lines

= 502 km

3. Number of Cross Lines

= 5 times sounding line spacing

= 5 x 20 m

= 100

= Length of sounding distance (seaward), 2 km = 2000 m

= (2000 m ÷ 100 m) + 1 lines

= 21 lines

4. Total Cross Line Distance

= Total Sounding Distance + Total Number of Cross Line

= 502 km + 105 km

= 607 km

5. If the turning distance between lines is 15% of the total run line distance and the

survey speed is 5 knots, how many hours are required for sounding?

15% of the total sounding line distance

= (15 ÷ 100) x total cross line distance

= (15 ÷ 100) x 607 km

= 698 km

1 knot = 1.852 km / h

= 5 knots

= 5 x 1.852

= 9.26 km / h

How many hours required?

= 698 ÷ 9.26

= 76 hours
