Assignment Notebook or sheet• Require & check each night• Have teachers initial if necessaryFolders & Notes• Organize each night• Take out what isn’t needed• Make sure important assignment are easily
found• Have a system for organizing (folders, 3 ring
binders, trapper)
Getting ready to studyDistraction free area
• No television, cell phones, etc.
• White noise is helpful Comfortable & Familiar Place
• Everyone is different – desk, table, bed, floor, etc.• Some prefer alone, others with people around
Make a to do list before you start• Know what needs to be done and prioritize
Be positive • Even if you don’t think the assignment is valuable, do not relay
that to your child. Your attitude will rub off on them.
Study Everyday• Even if you don’t have homework study every subject
everyday. • Break it down into smaller time segments• Pick a time that is right for you (don’t sabotage yourself)• Make a schedule for the day

Go over homework with your child
Quiz your child (sticky notes)
Re-write notes
Make “cheat sheets” that can be used throughout the day
Make flashcards
Re-read chapters & take notes on main topics
TIPSSet short term expectations & goals together.
Set clear consequences & rewards.
Know what type of learner your child is.
Don’t let them procrastinate.
General rule of study time is app. 10 minutes per grade level.
Remember that every teacher has different expectations.

Eat a variety of foods everyday, including vegetables, fruits, grains & low fat protein sources.
Limit sugars, salts & vegetable oils. Sugary snacks & drinks do not help your mind work at it optimal level.
Drinks plenty of WATER.
High carb foods, such as pasta, can help improve your mood & put you in the best state of mind for learning, but don’t eat too much or you’ll get sleepy.
Things to rememberIt is ultimately the students responsibility.
• The student must develop the right attitude & motivation.
• The student must accept responsibility for successes & failures.
