12 May HILL WALKBeinn a’ Ghlo

Distance: 11-12 milesAscent: 1100mTime: 7-8 hoursStart: at the end of the public section ofthe Monzie road near Loch MoraigDepart Comrie School car park at 7.45amand Crieff Coop at 8.00amPay drivers: £5

More a range of hill rather than a singlepeak, Beinn a’ Ghlo has three munrosummits, a decision will be made on ornear to the day depending on weather andthe abilities of those walking to do one,two or all three tops. The tops are roundedbut with steep flanks. This great massifmakes for a memorable day out. Mostlygood paths with steep descents betweenthe peaks and some rough ground.

Trip to the seaside – Fife Coastal Path

19 May WALKAnstruther to Kingsbarns

Distance: 10.25 miles

Start: Anstruther

Finish: Kingsbarns

Bus departs Comrie School car park at9.00am and Crieff Coop at 9.15am

This lovely section of the Fife Coastal Pathpasses the Hermit’s Well and the site ofold salt pans while heading northeast tothe pretty harbour of Crail. It will thencontinue on the route being taken by theStrollers (see above). The Walkers willshare a coach with the Strollers and willdisembark first (so they cover moredistance).

19 May STROLLCrail to Kingsbarns

Distance: 6 miles

Start: Crail

Finish: Kingsbarns

Bus departs Comrie School car park at9.00am and Crieff Coop at 9.15am

Starting in the picture-postcard fishingvillage of Crail, this lesser known sectionof the Fife Coastal Path rounds Fife Ness,the far eastern point of the ‘Kingdom’,then runs up the remote east coast to thebeach of Cambo Sands by Kingsbarns.The Strollers will share a coach with theWalkers and will disembark further up thecoast (so they cover less distance).

23 June STROLLBrig O' Turk and The TrossachsViewpoint

Distance: 6 milesStart: Brig O' TurkDepart Comrie School car park at10.00am and Crieff Coop at 10.15amPay drivers: £4

This stroll is on forestry paths with somegood view points. A few paths may betricky to see and also boggy. The A821 iscrossed and also the bridge over the EasanGruamach, taking the path back into thewoodland. There are views of LochKatrine, Ben Venue, Glen Finglas andLoch Achray. The stroll finishes along theshore of Loch Achray on the return to theBrig O' Turk.

30 June WALKFalls of Bruar and Glen Banvie

Distance - 11 milesStart: House of Bruar car park (at the topnear the play park)Depart Comrie School car park at 9.00amand Crieff Coop at 9.15amPay drivers: £5

The walk starts on the path up to andaround the Falls of Bruar. Walkers willnotice changed scenery here, asconsiderable swathes of forest have beenfelled on this part of Atholl Estates. Thewalk continues on a forest road up GlenBruar then, at the edge of the forest, itturns right to descend through attractiveGlen Banvie. The return track has viewsover Blair Castle and Strath Garry.

Start: LassintullichFinish: KenmoreDistance: 14 milesBus departs Comrie School car park at8.00am and Crieff Coop at 8.15am

This route leaves Lassintullich, on thesouth side of Dunalastair Water, andfollows a track that passes below the steepwest face of Schiehallion, the ‘fairy hill ofthe Caledonians’. It then drops down tosheilings on the Allt Mor burn, beside thelimestone cave of Tom a’Mhor-fhir, whichis reputedly an entrance to the‘otherworld’. After that it follows anothertrack south, rising up past GlenmoreBothy, over a col and downhill intoFortingall, where walkers could opt to bepicked up by the bus. The final section isover forested Drummond Hill and downinto Kenmore.

14 July HILL WALKTarmachan Ridge

Distance: 8 miles; Ascent: 1100mTime: 7-8 hoursStart: the Monzie road near Loch MoraigDepart: Crieff Coop at 7.45am andComrie School car park at 8.00amPay drivers: £3

Lying at the western end of the Lawersrange, this is a fine ridge walk. The routestarts from the Lawers car park and headsnorth over a subsidiary top then climbs upto Meall nan Tarmachan (1044m), thehigh point of the walk. After this wetraverse westwards along the ridge overMeall Garbh (1026m), Beinn nan Eachan(1000m) and Creag na Callich (916m).The views are dramatic and one sectionrequires hands to step down a rocky knoll.We will descend to a hydro intake andreturn along a vehicle track.

21 July STROLLInchewan Path, Birnam

Distance: 5 milesStart: Birnam, opp. hotel in village centreDepart Comrie School car park at 9.00amand Crieff Coop at 9.15amPay drivers: £3

Following the Inchewan Path, we willpass the Beatrix Potter Garden and walkup under the A9 road and the railway.This varied and wildlife-rich walk followsthe banks of the picturesque InchewanBurn into the woodland of Birnam Glenthen crosses it into Ladywell Plantation.Beyond the birches of Tomgarrow Wood,it crosses open pasture around Balhomishfarm before returning to Birnam Glen.

28 July WALKChairmans Walk for Comrie FortnightCrieff to Comrie via Auchingarrich

Distance: 9 milesStart: Crieff Visitor CentreDepart: Comrie School car park in CoCobus at 9.00am

Transport provided (free). Please bookon the walk as per Comrie Fortnightprogramme.

A linear walk from Crieff along the highground on the south side of Strathearnwith super views over farmland andwooded hills to rugged mountains. Thereare no long hills but the walk does haveseveral ups and downs, progressivelyclimbing 350m over its length. The routepasses the mast on Torlum as it traversesthe northern slopes of it and Lurgan Hill,before descending through woods toAuchingarrich Wildlife Centre. There isthe option to continue down to Comrievia Bogton Braes from Auchingarrich.

Two fine Munros with rewarding ridgewalking and great views over a wideexpanse from Loch Lomond to Ben Nevis.The walking is mostly on good grassyground underfoot with a final section thatcan be boggy.

18 August STROLLThe Glen Rd and The Darn Road

Start: Dunblane Cathedral car parkDistance - 5.5 milesDepart Comrie School car park at10.00am and Crieff Coop at 10.15amPay drivers: £2.50

This is a circular from Dunblane to Bridgeof Allan with a 'low level' outward legand a 'high level’ return. The paths aregood with some road walking and shortclimbs, crossing the Kippenrait Burn.Superb views northwards towards thehighland hills and northwest to Callanderand the Trossachs.

This stroll is on a good track down thenow uninhabited side of Glen Artney. It isfairly flat with some short inclines, andone wet and muddy section. The views ofthe surrounding hills and Glen Artney arestunning. The Coco bus will drop walkersat the Glen Artney Church car park.

The route takes a track opposite theformer Foulford Inn up to the The Scurranand the ancient cairn (613m), overlookingthe beautiful Sma’ Glen. Returning thesame way.
