works on a different planet.Al That’s right. The trip is very long – people

usually sleep for weeks and weeks. Eva Where’s my little brother? Where’s Dom?Al He’s sleeping. Look!

Dom is sleeping on a special bed.Eva Are we near Aunt Ellie’s planet?Al No, we aren’t. Eva Then why am I awake?Al I don’t know. There’s a problem with the

spaceship.

Eva Who’s flying it?Al No one is flying the ship. It’s automatic.

It flies by itself.

Suddenly there’s a loud noise. Dom starts to wake up, too. Dom What’s going on? Eva Al, show us the ship’s screen, please.

Then Dom Look! There’s a planet. And we’re flying

straight towards it. Eva Al, what is that planet?Al It’s Planet X. It’s one of the most dangerous

planets in this part of the galaxy.Eva What are you doing, Dom? Put that camera

down! Why are you filming this?Dom It’s fantastic! This is my first trip away from

Earth and I want to remember everything!

But Eva doesn’t like this place. Eva Can you hear those noises? There are

animals in the forest … big animals. This place is very dangerous. Al, can you fix the ship’s engine?

Al I don’t know. But I can try.

The robot goes to the ship’s engine. Now Eva and Dom are alone. Eva Are you OK, Dom? Don’t be frightened.Dom I’m not frightened. I’m HUNGRY!Eva Me too! OK, let’s ask Al for some food.

The children climb out of the ship, but they can’t see Al. Suddenly something moves behind Dom. It’s bigger than the children and it’s as fast as a wolf. It’s an alien – an alien with blue skin and big teeth!Dom Help! A monster! A lizard monster! Eva Quick, Dom – run!

Eva and her brother run away into the dark forest.

Dom No, they aren’t apples, but they’re fruit. I can smell them! They smell fantastic!

The two children throw sticks up at the tree. At last some of the fruit falls down. Eva picks it up with both hands. She’s really hungry now. Suddenly something is behind them, it’s the alien again!Eva Mmm. The smell is like cherries, or

strawberries. I think we can eat this fruit. Would you like some, Dom?

Alien Stop! Don’t eat that!

Eva is frightened. The fruit falls from her hands. Eva and Dom start to run, but the alien shouts again. He’s pointing at the fruit on the ground. Alien Wait! That fruit is the most dangerous

thing on our planet. It’s called the Black Fruit! It tastes very good, but if you eat it, terrible things happen.

The children stop running. Dom The Black Fruit? That’s a strange name. Eva Look, Dom! The grass under the fruit is

black. It’s dead!

Eva looks at the alien again. Eva You helped us. But why? Who are you?

Ellie leaves the office and Mr Kelman opens a drawer in his desk. There’s a radio inside it. Mr Kelman speaks into the radio. Mr Kelman Al, can you hear me?

After a few seconds, the robot on Planet X answers. Al Yes, I can, Mr Kelman. Mr Kelman Did you destroy the ship’s engine? Al Yes, I did. The ship can never fly again.Mr Kelman What about the two children on

the ship? I don’t want any problems because of two silly children. Where are they?

Al When I was looking at the ship’s engine, they ran away.

After dinner, the children of the village want to talk to Eva and Dom. Dom What do children here do for

entertainment in the evening? You haven’t got televisions or DVD players! Are you bored?

Village child We’re never bored in our village. We sing songs and tell stories. Sometimes we play games on the grass.

Dom Let’s play a game now! Do you know football?

Village child No, we mustn’t go outside now. It’s dark. We should stay inside.

Suddenly there’s a terrible noise. Saff and the others run to the door.

Outside there are huge machines. Some villagers are shouting, others are screaming. The machines are taller than the trees. They’re coming towards the village.

At the top of one of the machines, there’s a chair. A man is sitting on the chair and he’s laughing. It’s Mr Kelman!

Mr Kelman No one will listen to you. A spaceship from Earth crashed here. You and your people destroyed it.

Dom hears this and runs to the front of the villagers. He’s angry.

Dom That isn’t true! Saff and his people helped us. They didn’t destroy our ship!

Mr Kelman No one will listen to you either. Dom Yes, they will! We aren’t going to let

you do this. Tell him, Eva!

But Eva isn’t there. She’s running to Saff’s dragonfly. Eva is frightened of insects, but she sits on the dragonfly’s back. Together they fly into the night. Eva Please, help me. Take me back to the

Eva turns on the camera. On the screen, Al the robot is speaking on a radio. He says, ‘Yes, Mr Kelman’. Then he starts to destroy the ship.

Dom Animals didn’t destroy the ship. Al did it!

Eva Mr Kelman ordered him to do it.

Mr Kelman is angry.

Mr Kelman You silly children! You can’t stop me! I wanted to get this planet! I wanted to send all the lizard-people away, build my hotel and get lots of money! And I’m going to do that.

Al They can stop you! I’ve sent Dom’s film to every television news station in the galaxy. Everyone will know about your plan.

Kelman But why?Al I don’t want to follow your orders,

Mr Kelman. I don’t want to work for Kelman Hotels any more.

A few days later, Aunt Ellie arrives at Planet X. The children see their aunt and run to her.

Ellie Eva! Dom! Are you OK? I’ve been very worried!

Eva We’re fine. Dom We’ve had a fantastic holiday here …

with our new friends. Ellie The police have arrested Mr Kelman.

I’m the new boss and I can promise you this – we’re never going to build a hotel on this beautiful planet.
