Static Paper Bending Stiffness Measurement System

Design Challenge We chose the paper bending stiffness measurement challenge Problem Statement

Currently within the Xerox’s iGen4 there is no device to measure the paper bending stiffness by the IGen4 itself. Xerox needs a reliable method of measuring the paper’s stiffness as it passes through the printer.

Mission Statement To design an accurate, efficient device that can be used in iGen4; it

must meet the needs and expectations of Xerox Company and must be self-contained with the IGen4.

Design Specifications Design a device that detects the bending stiffness of an 8.5″×11″

sheet moving through a simple paper path. The sheet should be moving somewhere between 250 to 750 mm/s.

The paper stock stiffness needs to be measured within a tolerance of 100 millinewtons.
