1 Preconditions for an online connectionbetween STARTER and SINAMICS G120via USB

The latest version of STARTER (V4.3.3) must be installed.The CU (Control Unit) is connected to the PC USB port using the specified USBcable or USB interface cable.

2 What do I do if …?A. after installing/updating STARTER, I cannot establish an online connection

via USB?

Countermeasure/remedy: Close STARTER Open the registry with "regedit" Open the folder

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SIEMENS\SINEC\LogDevices\S7USB If the entry is missing, the content should be displayed as follows

Delete the S7 USB folder Open STARTER Connect the USB cable to the CU. The system creates a new "S7USB" folder

with the following content. Depending on the software packages installed, thefollowing syntax should be displayed in "S7USB". If this is not the case, thenthe STARTER software should be installed again.

B. after "withdrawing" and "inserting" the USB cable, a USB connection can nolonger be established?This problem depends on which Intel chip was installed for the USB host controller;it only occurs under Windows XP and the "Intel 5 Serie 3400" chipset. This problemis manifested by the USB port freezing in the device manager. The SINAMICSG120 is no longer detected after inserting the USB cable. Further, it is no longerpossible to detect the MMC card in the SINAMICS G120.

Countermeasure/remedy: Reboot the computer,

or Upgrade to WIN7 64 bit

C. after installing/updating STARTER, I cannot establish an online connectionvia USB, however the registry entries are OK?

Countermeasure/remedy:1. Check the registry entries.2. Upgrade the operating system to WIN7 64bit

Check the registry entries: Close STARTER Open the registry with "regedit" Open the folder
