Upcoming Worship – Wednesday, December 6th – Memory Tree Service On Sunday, December 6th, at 9:15am, we will hold a brief ceremony remembering our departed love ones at the big blue spruce near the sidewalk at the entrance of the north courtyard. You are invited to bring an ornament to be placed on the tree in memory of your loved one. It will remain on the tree through the holiday season, and then be taken off in early January. You can then pick up your ornament in the church office. Extra ornaments will be available on the 6th if you forget yours and would still like to participate. Upcoming Worship – Wednesday, December 9th – Mid-week Advent Worship Please join us on Wednesday evenings in December for our mid-week Advent worship services. The theme this year is “Christ is Coming…” December 9th’s title is “Christ is Coming in a Manger.” Worship begins at 7pm. Please join us. Altar Flowers The altar flowers this week were donated by Virginia Reitze, in honor of what would have been her 68th wedding anniversary this year.

The 2016 flower chart is here – now is the best time to reserve a date to honor a special person or occasion. The cost of an altar flower arrangement in 2016 is still $25, and needs to be pre-paid. You are always welcome to take the flowers home after the second service on Sunday. Scripture Readings for this Week FIRST READING: Malachi 3:1-4 The Lord announces a covenant with Israel. A messenger like Malachi (his name means "my

messenger") shall prepare the way for the coming of the Lord by purifying and refining God's

people, as silver and gold are refined.

1See, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me, and the LORD whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple. The messenger of the covenant in whom you delight—indeed, he is coming, says the LORD of hosts. 2But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner's fire and like fullers' soap; 3he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the descendants of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, until they present offerings to the LORD in righteousness. 4Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the LORD as in the days of old and as in former years.

SECOND READING: Philippians 1:3-11 The apostle Paul was the pastor of many new churches. He writes in this letter about his joy to

be in partnership with the Christians of Philippi. Listen to how tender-hearted Paul, sometimes a

stern preacher, is with his friends as he encourages them to grow in love and knowledge.

3I thank my God every time I remember you, 4constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, 5because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. 6I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. 7It is right for me to think this way about all of you, because you hold me in your heart, for all of you share in God's grace with me, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. 8For God is my witness, how I long for all of you with the compassion of Christ Jesus. 9And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight 10to help you to determine what is best, so that in the day of Christ you may be pure and blameless, 11having produced the harvest of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God. GOSPEL: Luke 3:1-6 John the Baptist is a herald of the saving Lord, whose way is prepared by "repentance for the

forgiveness of sins." As we hear the careful record of human leaders, we sense the spectrum of

political and religious authority that will be challenged by this coming Lord.

1In the fifteenth year of the reign of Emperor Tiberius, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was ruler of Galilee, and his brother Philip ruler of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias ruler of Abilene, 2during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness. 3He went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, 4as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah, "The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.' 5Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth; 6and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.'"

Time to Order Christmas Poinsettias It is the tradition at St. Philip to decorate our sanctuary at Christmas with beautiful potted poinsettias, and to dedicate the flowers to loved ones. It is time to begin placing our orders for this year. The poinsettias will be in 6.5” pots with approximately 5-7 blooms per plant. The cost per plant is $15, and must be pre-paid. The deadline for ordering a poinsettia is Monday, December 14th. Order/dedication forms are on the back of the Connection Cards; please complete the section on the card and put it in the offering plate. Community Care & Compassion Ministry

Support Family Promise on Colorado Gives Day There’s a new way to support Family Promise. Colorado Gives Day celebrates philanthropy and local nonprofits through 24 hours of online giving. This year's giving day falls on Dec. 8: Schedule your donation or visit ColoradoGives.org to contribute on the 8th!

You can also visit FamilyPromiseOfGreaterDenver.org to give any time of the year or mail your donation to P.O. Box 40550, Denver, CO 80204, today. Family Promise is a member of the Denver Enterprise Zone, so monetary donations of $200 or more qualify for a 25% tax credit. Thank You from Family Promise Thanks to the generosity of so many wonderful St. Philip people, we had a great Family Promise rotation this week. Our four guest families consisted of 6 adults and 8 children. Children’s ages ranged from 6 to 17. Everyone was very appreciative of the hospitality and delicious food provided by St. Philip. Please pick up a bag of laundry in the narthex and bring it back clean and folded for our next rotation which will be March 13 – 20, 2016. Thank You for the Christmas Gifts Thanks to everyone that gave Christmas gifts from our list of homeless families that needed a helping hand to make their Christmas a little brighter. Your gifts are being distributed during the Family Promise Christmas party on December 6th. Thanks again!

Socks and Gloves Needed for Teen Girls Winter weather is here, and the teen girls who attend Sheridan High need your help to stay warm. The RTD student bus riders who stand at bus stops to and from school need fairly substantial gloves and warm socks to protect them from the elements. Most of the students would require adult medium and large sizes, with a smattering of XL and smalls. We hope to collect gloves and socks the next three Sundays: November 29, December 6, and December 13. Thank you for your heartfelt generosity! Totes for Hope-New Opportunity for Ministry! We have now expanded our ministry to include Totes for Hope, a program that provides weekend food for Sheridan school district families. Every Friday we will be handing out totes to needy children which will include food for the weekend. We need:

People to assemble the totes on Friday afternoons and hand them out.

Regular grocery bags (paper, plastic, or cloth, but NOT newspaper bags) for use with this program.

To volunteer for any aspect of this ministry, please contact Carole Kessler at 303.238.6873 or [email protected]. Thank You from Sheridan Food Pantry Thank you to all who donated food for Sharing with Sheridan! The need is great and you helped a lot! Protein items continue to be important, especially with the long winter break coming up – not just peanut butter and tuna, but also canned items like ham, salmon, chicken, stews, hearty soups, chili and chicken and dumplings. Sharing with Sheridan Food Pantry Update HELP! We are still looking for drivers to pick up supplies at the Food Bank of the Rockies on Wednesday or Thursday. We can arrange for a trailer or pickup truck for you if that helps. Even if you can only serve occasionally, please contact Carole Kessler at 303.238.6873 or [email protected] if you are interested.

Sharing with Sheridan volunteers have recently become aware of several homeless teenagers using the food pantry. They are more likely to find somewhere to stay if they bring food. This IS such an important ministry! Colorado Gives Day – Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp We are blessed to have a huge community of people that love and support the ministry that happens at Rainbow Trail! Last year this community stepped in huge ways on Colorado Gives Day and raised just over $63,000. That is a tremendous statement of the importance of RTLC in the faith development of children.

Your contributions to our ministry are needed more than ever. The gifts received on this day help us to proved great staff, excellent facilities, and life changing experiences to our campers. The goal for this year’s Colorado Gives Day is $70,000. With the help of people just like you, this is a very attainable goal! Please give, and invite your friends to give a gift to Rainbow Trail through ColoradoGives.org on December 8th. Thanks for your faithful support of this ministry!
