Seeking Him

I love how directly Jesus questions the disciples in this passage. He seems to be asking, “Just what is it you want from me?” Yet see how they sidestep his ques-tion? I wonder if they even knew what they were look-ing for. They were seekers, certainly. After all, they were following John the Baptist. Perhaps they felt some longing that they hoped Jesus could fulfill.

What is it that we are looking for when we turn to the Lord? When we lay our questions, sorrows and anger before him, what do we hope for in return? We may come to prayer hoping for guidance, comfort or even justice, but isn’t it really Christ himself that we may seek? Our desire for the Lord arises from God’s own desire for us. We come to prayer to meet the Lord we long for, the Lord who sought us first, who is always with us.

Lord, it is you I seek!

TALENT, TREASURE AND TIME

THE SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (JANUARY 17, 2021)

“When Samuel went to sleep in his place, the LORD came and stood there, calling out as before: Samuel, Samuel! Samuel an-swered, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”” 1 Samuel 3:9-10 Today we hear Samuel respond eagerly, "Here I am" each time the Lord calls him. A steward must be listening for the call of God in one’s life and be ready to respond like Samuel, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

MARRIAGE MOMENTS: (Martin Luther King) Not all injustices are black or white. Often there’s a lot of gray when trying to figure out who is right in an argument. Before digging in your heels and insisting on having your way, try to get in your spouse’s skin and see how the problem

looks through his/her eyes.

PARENTING POINTERS: Do your kids know how to argue well. I don’t mean how to complain or fight, but do they know how to listen to an oppos-ing view, understand it, then search for common ground. It’s a life skill. Model it for them.
