Dear Parishioners,

A person in the parish showed this article to me. I wanter to share it with you. It is a brief explanation of the prayer that I talked about last Sunday:

Guide to Lectio Divina

Choose a word or phrase of the Scriptures you wish to pray. It makes no difference which text is chosen, as long as you have no set goal of "covering" a certain amount of text. The amount of text covered is in God's hands, not yours.

Read. Turn to the text and read it slowly, gently. Savor each portion of the reading, constantly listen-ing for the "still, small voice" of a word or phrase that somehow says, "I am for you today." Do not expect lightning or ecstasies. In lectio divina, God is teaching us to listen, to seek him in silence. God does not reach out and grab us but gently invites us ever more deeply into his presence.

Ponder. Take the word or phrase into yourself. Memorize it and slowly repeat it to yourself, allowing it

to interact with your inner world of concerns, memories, and ideas. Do not be afraid of distractions. Memories or

th oughts are simply parts of yourself that, when they rise up during lectio divina, are asking to be given to God

along with the rest of your inner self. Allow this inner pondering, this rumination, to invite you into d ialogue with

God.

Pray. Whether you use words, ideas, or images—or all three—is not important. Interact with God as you

would with one who you know loves and accepts you. Give to God what you have discovered during your expe-

rience of meditation. Give to God what you have found within your heart.

It is not necessary to assess the quality of your lectio divina, as if you were "performing" or seeking some goal. Lectio divina has no goal other than that of being in the presence of God by praying the Scriptures.— Fr. Luke DysingerBlessings,

Fr. Peter

Queridos Parroquianos,

No esperes rayos o éxtasis.

Luke Dysinger

Bendiciones,

P. Peter

Quote of the Week _________________________________________________________________

However, all stems from the inability to trust above all in God, to put our securities in Him, to let Him give true profundity to our heart’s desires. This enables one to endure even weakness, uncertain-ty and precariousness. Reference to God makes one strong in weakness, in uncertainty and also in precariousness. Without God’s primacy, one falls easily into idolatry and is happy with meager reas-surances. But this is a temptation that we always read about in the Bible. And think this well: it didn’t cost God so much work to liberate the people from Egypt. He did so with signs of power <and> of love. However, God’s great work was to take Egypt out of the people’s heart, namely, to take idolatry out from the people’s heart. And God continues to work again to take it out of our hearts. This is God’s great work: to take out “that Egypt” that we carry inside, which is the fascina-tion of idolatry. When one welcomes the God of Jesus Christ, who though He was rich became poor for us (Cf.

2 8:9), one then discovers that to recognize one’s weakness is not the disgrace of human life, but is the condition to open oneself to Him who is truly strong. Then, God’s salvation enters through the door of <one’s> weakness (Cf. 2 12:10); it’s by dint of his in-sufficiency that man opens to God’s paternity. Man’s freedom stems from allowing the true God to be his only Lord. And this enables us to accept our fragility and reject the idols of our heart. -Pope Francis, General Audience 8/8/2018

Q: What are some consequences of our belief in the natural law?

A: Ones that we believe that the principles of human morality are accessible to everyone, regardless of belief, through the use of their reason. There are very few moral stances taken by the Church which are based on principles derived from divine revela-tion. As far as ethics goes, revelation in fact often only helps us to clarify and deepen our understanding of the natural moral law, or it calls us to a heroic exercise of it. This means that we can have useful moral discussions with any-one, and that when the Church says something in society should be a certain way, it is not “imposing our religion upon others”; ra-ther, we see it as merely following the dictates of right reason. This is clear from the fact that there are even groups such as Atheists for Life. Any moral principles which come from our religion are usually simply things that are binding for Catholics, such as partici-pation in Sunday Mass. Another consequence of the natural law is that it becomes impos-sible to affirm moral relativism. This is the idea that one person has his/her truth, and I have mine. The natural law says that there is truth, and we are either living in accord with it or not, to ours and humanity’s benefit or peril, respectively.
