Psychology = “Let go.” Spirituality = “Wake up.”

Fr. Alfred McBride points out their similarity …a withdrawal from the busyness of daily life and a waking up to the spiritual depths of ourselves. Let’s prepare for Christmas, but at the same me let’s not forget about Advent. One of my sisters is sure that two other family members finished their Christmas shopping a month ago; I’m coun ng on the “shopping days before Christmas” count-down. “Let go” …? Well, maybe a er Tuesday evening. Lots of ac vity around here as we prepare for the celebra on “Christmas at Riverside”. Our celebra on this Tuesday is one of joy…as Advent is a joyful season of an cipa on. The key is to recognize that God’s mercy is a reason for joy and that we cannot rejoice in God’s love if we are living in a way the keeps us distant from God. That’s the “Wake up” part. Yes, “Let go” and “Wake up” are a challenge. Advent challenges us to be alert to the ways we turn our minds and hearts away from God and others. Take this me to clear out earthly distrac ons. Unplug! Simplify! And unleash those spiritual gi s! These are the gi s we are called to share, to bring Jesus more fully into our lives and our world.

Fr. Bill

P. Bill

Beginning this weekend you will notice a slight change in each binder in the pews. Our large prayer cards are now gone, replaced by a new version of the missalettes and

music books. If you are looking for the Gloria and the two Creeds (Nicene and Apostles’), look no farther than the

music books! The Gloria is on the front cover of the music book, the

Nicene Creed is on the inside cover of the music book, with the

Apostles’ Creed on the inside of the back cover of the music book. Of course, these prayers are in the body of the missalette books, but if you need them “at a glance” you will find

them in our music books. The music books will stay in the binders for three years, with the missalettes being changed

with the liturgical seasons. Thank you to Joy Peterson, who volunteered many hours to

tape the Gloria onto the 425 music books!

Our Annual “Giving Tree”… The Giving Tree is up and ready

to be looked at and tags to be removed, so that you may take

advantage of early holiday sales and purchase those gift items at

bargain prices.

The gifts are for people in Shelters, Haiti, Love Life program and EPH (Ecumenical Partnership for

Housing). It’s easy! Just take a tag or two off the tree and purchase the item listed. Then return the gift,

UNWRAPPED (with the tag you picked) to Church by SUNDAY, DECEMBER 17 and PLACE IT UNDER

the Giving Tree. By your generous giving of a gift, some who are in hard

times can come to know the Gift of God’s help and love. THANK YOU for your care and assistance to

make this project possible!

First Sunday of Advent

“Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the me will come.”

─ Mark 13:33

We all take things for granted. In particular, we take time for granted. Our lives are so busy, many of us are planning our time—our days, weeks, months, even years in advance. Remember, our time on earth is a gift. None of us knows how long we will be here. Start today and begin thanking God for each and every day. Take time in silence, every day, and listen to what God is saying to you.

.Hearing Loop Update Our hearing loop is now available to help people with hearing challenges. If you have a hearing aid, we recommend you check with your audiologist if needed to get your t-coil set properly. If you do not have a hearing aid, or cannot connect to the loop with your hearing aid, speak to an usher and he/she can get you a loop receiver that will allow you to hear the sound from the microphone directly in your ear. You can either use a “headset” we provide or you can furnish your own headset or “earbud” to connect with the loop receiver. Contact the parish office at 468-7848 if you have any questions, or if you would like to convey any comments about the hearing loop or other sound system enhancements. We would like to hear your thoughts!
