Stewardship Our Pastor Fr. Jim Picton…...…..... Ext. 102

SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE SUNDAY This Sunday we begin Catholic Schools Week during which the Catholic community in our country honors the teachers, students and their parents who make up elementary and secondary Catholic Schools in the United States. Dan Sherman our school principal will be speaking at all the Masses this weekend and to celebrate the week we will begin with our annual St. Madeleine Sophie School Open House. Interested parents and their students can visit the classrooms and school office and talk with the teachers and staff. Enrollment packets will be available. Classrooms will be open for visitors from 9:30 am until 12:30pm this Sunday. Please also be sure to join us for the annual Knights of Columbus sponsored Pancake Breakfast in support of the Parish School Scholarship Fund. There will be two servings on Sunday after each of the morning Masses. Thank you to the Knights for their generous commitment to this event! Please note the Mass time change on Wednesday, January 31st to 8:45 am to accommodate the Grand friends Mass and Pancake Breakfast following.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS Congratulations to Frannie Ronan, who was selected to represent Team Washington in this summer’s Special Olympics USA Games 2018, here in Seattle, July 1-6. Frannie will be competing in gymnastics at the Seattle Pacific University venue. Follow along on our school website as we periodically update her road to a medal. The first post includes a link to an online article produced by Northwest Catholic, our archdiocesan publication. In addition, our school, the archdiocesan Diversified Leaners Committee, and the Archdiocesan Catholic Schools office is assisting with the effort to sign up 10,000 volunteers that will be needed to pull off the entire spectacle. Please see the enclosed brochure for more information.

STEWARDSHIP Thank you to all who have turned in their Stewardship pledge cards. The Parish Council and Finance Councils will be meeting over the coming weeks to review the revenue projections for the coming year and begin to make budget recommendations for the upcoming 2018-2019 fiscal year. As you can see in the column to the right we are just a little over year to date financial goal for Stewardship which is good news! However, the Debt service pledges have come in significantly lower. If we do not have pledges to match the debt service payments these funds must be taken from operations which means other items will need to go unfunded. If you have not had the opportunity to return your stewardship pledge card to the parish please do so this week in the collection basket, by dropping them off at the parish office or you can pledge online at www.stmadeleine.org. Or you can make your pledge online or via our parish app.

“Brothers and sisters: I should like you to be free of anxieties.” - 1 Corinthians 7:32

How much anxiety do we bring upon ourselves by constantly worrying about not having enough or attaining more things? God won’t necessarily give you everything you want, but He will provide everything you need. Try this – use the word “pray” instead of the word “worry” in the future.

Cold and flu season is here!

As A few guidelines should be observed during cold and flu season:

• If you have an active cold or flu with fever, frequent coughing and sneezing, consider staying home and praying or reading the Scriptures.

• If you are at Church with cold or flu symptoms, avoid touch-ing others. During the opening greeting and other times, smile, nod and give some non-tactile response such as crossing your arms over your chest.

• If you have cold or flu symptoms, please refrain from being a Eucharistic Minister.

If you cough or sneeze; cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or perform a ‘sleeve sneeze’ (sneeze or cough into your upper sleeve – recommended by the Centers for Disease Control). Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or an alcohol based hand cleaner.

Colds and flu are, unfortunately, part of everyday life, but with some awareness and simple precautions, the main modes of transmission can be impaired.

The Great Pearl Today in Kids’ Church we heard the parable of the Pearl of Great Value. The Kingdom of God is like a pearl that someone wanted so much that he sold everything he had so he could buy it. What is our most precious possession? Would we sell it to get the Kingdom of God?

Question for Adults: What are the evils in today's world that you pray God will free us from?

General Intercession for the parish: Let us pray that the power of God will free the world from sin and evil.

SERVE, LEAD, LOVE, LEARN At Wednesday’s liturgy, the Gospel told the story of the sower’s seed falling on rich ground and producing much fruit. It is very much like how each of our students tries hard every day to nurture each other in the fertile ground of St. Madeleine’s and live out our school-wide learning expectations (SLE’s) to SERVE, to LEAD, to LOVE and to LEARN. I reminded the students that when we do our best to put those SLE's into action, there isn't a school that is better. We then announced the names from our drawing for this month’s SLE Banquet, a special lunch recognizing students in each department who were nominated by a teacher for outwardly using these gifts. February 1st those ten students will be served a special pizza lunch. Nice job! You have each represented yourself, your family and your classmates well! Congratulations!

SPECIAL OLYMPICS The time is NOW! Review the flier in today’s packet and sign up to join the Archbishop and hundreds of others to support this summer’s Special Olympics USA Games 2018 here in Seattle. More details to follow.
