Dear Parishioners, On most Sundays within the readings are some gems and special messages. This Sunday is no exception. There is one such occurrence in our Gospel. John the
Baptist says, “…He existed before me.” What is interest-ing with this statement is that in truth John was born before Jesus and was older than the Lord in terms of earthly existence. So, when John the Baptist says “He existed before me,” it becomes clear that he is testifying to the pre-existence of Jesus as God. And, if Jesus is
God, which he is, that has to change everything about how we live our lives. We must order everything to the God who loves us. We know that at first, God the Father with the Holy Spirit in the image of a dove revealed to John the Baptist who Jesus was. Then, John the Baptist as we hear in our Gospel, pointed Jesus out to everybody
else. It is true that across the path of two thousand years, the need for people to have Jesus pointed out to them has only grown. The Church continues to fulfill the mission of John the Baptist in our own day by pointing Christ out. The Church fulfills that mission in us when we cooperate with this mission and responsibility given
to us to share our faith. So, let us commit ourselves to the task at hand to share our Catholic faith with others. Could be as simple as handing them a Catholic CD or book. Or if someone is sharing their struggle with you ask them if they would like to come with you to Eucharistic adoration or Mass. Invite others to
tune into Catholic Relevant Radio 930 am. Invite them to type in their questions at Catholic.com in their large search engine! Have a crucifix and a statue or image of Jesus and Mary up in your house. Have a prayer card at work. A rosary in your car. Wear a cross. Be like our patron St. John the Baptist and point them to Christ.
God Bless, Fr. Butler

OUR SHARING PANTRY
ANNUAL REPORT 2019 Our Sharing Pantry is blessed with dedicated volunteers
that give of their time each Thursday from 8:30 to 10:30am
and 4 to 6pm on the 3rd Monday of the month to distribute
groceries to our families in need. We would like to thank all
of our churches, organizations, businesses and individuals for
their support and prayers. Without it, our ministry could not
exist. We get our order of purchased food and Government
Commodities delivered from Northern Illinois Food Bank in
Geneva on the 2nd Monday of the month. We make extra
trips to Geneva, as needed. Any food we need that is not
available from the food bank is purchased locally. With your
help we were able to assist 1,297 people this year and provide
extra food for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.
We would like to thank all our church members,
Sandwich Community Garden and Phillips Farm for
donating fresh produce to our families.
Total Income $23,840.58 Total Disbursements $30,705.25
Financial support may be sent to Our Sharing Pantry, PO
Box 912, Somonauk, IL 60552 and food donations can be
arranged by calling 815 498-2742.
This year’s Community Interfaith Crop Walk was held in Big
Rock. We had 94 walkers participating. Total pledges for this
event were $15,881.41; of which 25% stays in this area and is
divided equally between Our Sharing Pantry and the Hinck-
ley pantry.
Thank you again for all the help and support you have given
us throughout this year.
