Saint Gabriel the Archangel Saddle River

Today’s readings are again directed to believers, com-munities of faith. As in last week’s reading, Amos confronts us with a condemnation of those whose lives are focused on pleas-ure and self-absorption. The psalm contrasts that focus with the Lord’s -justice for the oppressed; food for the hungry; freedom for captives; sight to the blind; raising of those who are bowed down; loving the just; protecting strangers, orphans, and the wid-ow; and by doing so, thwarting the way of the wicked. Timothy urges the pursuit of righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience, and gentleness. Luke tells the familiar tale of the wealthy man and the poor beggar at his doorstep, who experience life very differently in this world and in the next. We are once again being given clear indications about how God intends for us to live our lives. Peace, Fr. Frank

FINANCIAL REPORT

The amount of the collection for September 22 was $10,562.00 . Thank you for your continued generosity to St. Gabriel's. God bless you and your families.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

“My child, remember that you received what was good during your lifetime while Lazarus likewise received what was bad; but

now he is comforted here, whereas you are tormented. Moreover, between us and you a great chasm is established.”

(Luke 16:25-26)

When God created the world He declared that it was good and He gave it to all mankind for us to enjoy. However, over the years we have created a chasm between those who have great gifts and those who do not. In today’s Gospel we see that with our own generosity we must bridge that gap between those who have much and those who have little or we may find ourselves on the wrong side of the chasm in the next life.

Come join us in a presentation of BISHOP ROBERT BARRON’S THE MASS!

Come join us in an illumination of The Mass, and the meaning behind the parts of the Mass, as only Bishop Robert Barron can reveal. Our Religious Studies Program will begin on Wednesday, September 25th and will continue for six weeks through October 30th. This year the morning sessions with Father Frank are mov-ing from Tuesday to Wednesday and will follow the 9:00 a.m. Mass (around 9:30 a.m.) in the Parish Center Meeting Room. The Wednesday evening sessions with Christine Ferreri will continue at 7:30 p.m., however, we are happy to also offer an evening ses-sion on Mondays at 7:30 p.m. with Christine Ferreri. As always, if you miss one session during the week you will be able to attend another session that week. Remember, all sessions are independ-ent of each other so you need not attend all six sessions. This is a wonderful program for all parishioners. Please fill out your sign-up flyer and turn it in to the Parish Center Office. Call Father Frank, Maureen Straut or Christine Ferreri with any questions.

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE ARCHDIOCESE OF NEWARK

During the Easter season Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, Archbishop of Newark, announced his new pastoral vision called Forward in Faith Together: Our Road Ahead. This vision maps out the future of the Archdiocese with six key pillars to create a positive path forward for all the faithful, clergy, and religious in the Archdiocese, while simultaneously addressing the key chal-lenges of the past. Forward in Faith Together seeks to engage more fully laity of all ages in the life of the Church. It also seeks to strengthen unity among the clergy and the people they serve, and to empower deacons and consecrated women and men. Addi-tionally, it emphasizes lifelong faith formation and education, and the ongoing formation of clergy. Forward in Faith Together will ensure that, together, we thrive as a community of disciples, com-panions of our Lord, Jesus Christ. All are encouraged to engage in this process. Please speak with your pastor or parish administrator about how to get involved. For more information about Forward in Faith Together, visit forward.rcan.org. Here you will find the complete pastoral vision document along with a letter and video message from Cardinal Tobin and other materials. Cardinal Tobin will present Forward in Faith Together: Our Road Ahead at four county parishes: October 1 at St. Thomas the Apostle in Bloomfield; October 2 at St. Peter the Apostle in River Edge; October 23 at Holy Spirit Church in Union; and Oc-tober 29 at Our Lady of Mercy in Jersey City. All presentations are from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Parishioners are invited to a session in their county.

We can do all things in Christ who strengthens us. Philippians 4:13.
