NORTHERN AREA SCHOOLS NETBALL CARINVAL On 30th October, students in Years 4 to 7 who have nominated to attend the final carnival for the year will venture to Argana Park, Elizabeth Downs, to participate in the Northern Area Schools Netball Carnival. Consent forms have been sent out to those students who are interested. Please ensure these consent forms are handed in before the due date of Tuesday 27th October. This will be our final carnival for 2015 and it is looking to be our biggest of the year!

I would like to send out a final message to all teachers, parents, staff and students who have helped with carnivals and school sports in 2015. It has been excellent to see a big increase in attendance at our carnivals and we hope to go even bigger and better in 2016. Thank you. Mr Skewes

Dear Families and Friends of St Augustine’s Parish School It is hard to believe we are already in Term 4. We have had an unusually warm start to Spring and Term 4 this year. Please be mindful of the need to wear a hat and to be SunSmart with your children. We have a lot of shaded outdoor space within the school and on days when the temperature reaches 35oC we have a ‘sit quietly in the shade’ policy. NEW RECEPTIONS We welcome our newest Little Augustine’s as our Term 4 Reception class started this term. We also welcome their teacher Ms Eliza Cruse. This Reception class is located in the MacKillop space. CATHOLIC SCHOOLS MUSIC FESTIVAL In the last week of last term our St Augustine’s Choir participated in the Catholic Schools Music Festival at the Festival Theatre. It was a wonderful night of music and our students did us proud. Particular thanks go to Ms Sally Hoffman, who has been working hard training the Choir all year, and to Mrs Charmaine Gillard, who stepped in to keep the practices going in Sally’s absence last term. CAR PARKING & CHILDREN’S SAFETY You will have recently received a letter asking you to be mindful of parking in spaces other than those provided by the school. Children’s safety is of utmost importance and the concern has come particularly from the people at Helping Hand Aged Care. They run a facility across the road from us on Commercial Road. Sadly they have witnessed children playing in their car park, running in and out of their automatic doors and even climbing on the mechanical lifter ramp of a delivery vehicle. All of these incidents have happened at after school pick up time. This is highly unsafe behaviour for both the children and the elderly visitors to the centre. We value our relationship with

our neighbours and would not want these types of incidents to jeopardise that. The car parks opposite our school are Private Car Parks and not for our use. Compared to many schools, we are blessed to have car parking available at both the Church and the Chapel alongside our school. Please don’t use the car parks across the road. RESTORATIVE PRACTICE Last Friday was a Pupil Free Day. The school staff attended a training day building on our work with Restorative Practice. Bill Hansberry from Hansberry Educational Consulting facilitated our day. Restorative Practice is a means of restoring broken relationships and aiding people to find constructive ways of dealing with relational issues. None of us are perfect and from time to time we find that we do things, or make choices that at the very least require an apology and possibly require heavy duty repairing of a relationship. Restorative Practice gives us the tools and language to help with that. It is deeply Catholic to treat each other with dignity and respect and to offer the opportunity to fix problems caused by our own choices and be welcomed back into right relationships with each other. You have probably seen elements of Restorative Practice in action in our school. When we give it the chance to work, it works brilliantly. “Then Peter came and said to him, ‘Lord, if another member of the church sins against me, how often should I forgive? As many as seven times?’ Jesus said to him, ‘Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy-seven times.’ Matthew 18:21-22” COMMUNITY GARDEN Spring is a wonderful time of year when we see the new growth after Winter, birds sing, trees blossom and flowers bloom. Our Community Garden is coming along beautifully. If you haven’t seen it yet, the garden is located on the Commercial Road frontage of the school adjacent to the Year

6/7 classes. It can be seen from the road. Once the building of the garden boxes is completed, all children will have a role to play in the planting, maintenance and protection of the garden. Have a wander to that side of the school when you are dropping off or picking up your children. FOR YOUR DIARY Among the many dates we need to remember this term, don’t forget: Friday 27th November – Carols’ Night

here at school Thursday 3rd December – End of Year

Mass and Graduation It will be wonderful to see as many people as possible at these two school community events.

$ $ $ $ $ F I N A N C E $ $ $ $ $ SCHOOL FEES

As we are nearing the end of another year, all school fees should be paid in full by 23 October 2015 (unless alternative arrangements have been made). Your School Fee Statement was posted home late last week and if you have any queries with this, please contact me immediately. If you are having difficulties in meeting the deadline of 23 October 2015, please contact the Finance Office to make an agreement/payment arrangement. All overdue school fees will be charged a $50 overdue fee. This includes Direct Debit, Centrepay deductions, BPays and Direct Credits that will not repay this year’s fees by the end of the year. If you need to check your calculation to ensure that your fees are paid in full, please contact me either in person or email me. SIBLING ENROLMENTS

Parents of students already attending St Augustine’s who also have children nearing school age still need to complete an Enrolment Form – please contact the Front Office immediately if you require a Reception place in 2016. We are currently enrolling children for Term 1 intake (turning 5 before 30th April) and Term 3 intake (turning 5 before 31st October). If your child turns 5 after 31st October, they will commence school in Term 1 of the following year. ENROLMENT WITHDRAWAL

If you intend to withdraw your child from St Augustine’s Parish School, one full term’s notice will be required. This must be in writing, addressed to the Principal. Failure to provide this advance notice will incur a term’s tuition fee. We are currently developing our budget for 2016 and student numbers are a key component of the school’s income. If you do not intend to maintain your child/ren’s enrolment in 2016, please provide written notice by no later than the end of Term 3 to ensure you are not charged one term’s fees in lieu of notice. ARE YOU HAVING DIFFICULTIES PAYING YOUR FEES?

If you would like to discuss a fee payment arrangement, please feel free to contact me on 8182 7900 or [email protected] to arrange an appointment. All discussions will be kept confidential.

Upcoming Event: WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY

World Teachers’ Day was inaugurated on 5th October 1994 by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to commemorate the 1966 joint signing of the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. In adopting this recommendation, governments unanimously recognised the importance of competent, qualified and motivated teachers in society. World Teachers’ Day celebrates the efforts of teachers on a global scale, acknowledging the important contribution made in an increasingly complex, multicultural and technological world. The day is a wonderful opportunity to draw public attention to the important role of teachers in our local communities. Internationally World Teachers’ Day is celebrated on the first Friday in October. However as this is usually during Australian school holidays, Australia celebrates the day on the last Friday in October of each year. The day allows students, parents and community members to show their appreciation for teachers and the positive impact they make on society. This year World Teachers’ Day falls on Friday 30th October and our school will hold a staff luncheon hosted by the Parents & Friends to recognise the efforts of our teaching staff. Quality teaching is critical to students’ performance and enriches young lives. At St Augustine’s we celebrate the contribution of all staff at the school on World Teachers’ Day. Next Meeting: Term 4, Week 3, Tuesday 27th October, 9.15 am CCC. All welcome.

We are proud to have made many

connections in the Salisbury community which enables the children to know and explore their community as citizens. Julie Tilley is

the Manager of Bendigo Bank - Salisbury Branch and we are looking forward to all the opportunities working together can bring. My name is Julie Tilley and I am the Branch Manager at Bendigo Bank, Salisbury. I wanted to introduce myself as I will be working in partnership and become part of your school community at St Augustine’s. I have worked in finance for the past 17 years, I am a wife to my husband, Patrick, of 23 years and am a mother to our 14 year old daughter, Trinity. I have a passion to educate our children when it comes to their understanding of Banking and finance. The financial world is becoming more and more challenging, and I know when we work together we can help navigate our children through this. Running a household is hard these days as the bills and our commitments are hard to meet. This puts pressure on us as adults and our children. I am really keen for us to work together. I really am looking forward to becoming part of your community. Julie Tilley, Bendigo Bank – Salisbury - [email protected] - https://www.facebook.com/SalisburyBranch
