    Fr. Joe . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Dear Saint Alphonsus Family, Peace be with you. For many of us, November is a special time for many reasons: time to remember our beloved deceased family members and friends, time to express our gratitude and thankfulness to God and others, time to adjust ourselves for the coming cold weather, and time to say goodbye to this liturgical year and move on to the new year. Besides those usual practices and feelings that we normally do or have every year, there are some other new things adding on to our lives this year: the long, challenging pandemic and the messy election. Life should keep going no matter what happens, and we, as Christians, should keep moving forward, and never give up. Let us be mindful that the Lord is walking side by side with us, or even carrying us on his shoulder when we no longer can walk. The main theme of the Scripture readings this weekend is about wisdom. In the Gospel reading, Jesus told us the parable of the ten virgins; five of them were foolish and the other five wise. From the outside, these ten virgins look similar in the way they dress and the lamp they have. They are all waiting for the Bridegroom who is delayed in coming. But the story reveals a big difference among these virgins. The wise ones have oil in their lamps, but the lamps of the foolish ones are empty. With lit lamps in their hands, the wise ones join the Bridegroom in the joyful banquet hall, while the foolish are locked outside in the dark. It is said that we can’t control what happens to us, but we can control how we react to it. Only people with wisdom can choose the best way to respond to problems and challenges. Wisdom makes a big difference in our life. Wisdom helps us see further and deeper into everything going on around us. Without wisdom, people may see a problem, a challenge, as a curse, but with wisdom, they may see it as an opportunity to grow and gain. Each one of us is entrusted with a lamp which is our heart or soul. But it is our duty to fill that lamp, to fill our soul with the oil of wisdom which we can find only in God. All the Saints are the wise ones because they always tried to come closer to God, have a good relationship with God, and especially ask God for wisdom. At this challenging time with the pandemic and political turmoil, we really need the wisdom from the Lord, so we can react wisely to help bring about healing, strength, and peace for ourselves and for those in our family and community. At the end of this letter, I would like to let you know one new duty that I am voluntarily taking on. From now on, I will volunteer to come to hospitals to give the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick to the Covid patients. As the situation gets worse, the Archdiocese needs more priests to do this special ministry for our suffering sisters and brothers who can’t have their families and friends by their side to support them. Please pray for me and all the priests who have been involved in this ministry. May God bless and keep all of you safe. Fr. Joseph Le

    Parking Lot Mass Participation

    to Receive Eucharist

We invite you to participate in Sunday, 8:30am Mass by parking your vehicle in the south lot.

Please park your vehicle along the south side of church

    across from the portico.

While in your vehicle, you can access an audio feed of the Mass by tuning your car radio to frequency FM90.3. (This Mass is not live–streamed.)

At the time for distribution of the Eucharist, beginning November 15, you will drive to

the circle drive to receive communion. (details on the next page)

Even though you are in your car, please put on a mask at this time. You will need to roll down your car windows and hold out both your hands with your palms up.

The assistant will spray your hands with hand sanitizer. Then the Eucharistic Minister will give you communion. The Eucharistic Minister will be wearing a face covering/mask

    and a face shield.

The assistant will also be carrying a basket for offerings should you wish to make your Sunday donation in this way.

Please be patient because it will take some time to get to each person. Thank you for the prayers you have offered for our parish already! We know God hears them because we

could not have come this far without them!

Please Pray For: ~ Our Veterans ~

    Dear Lord,

Today we honor our veterans, worthy men and women who gave their best when they were called upon to serve and protect their country. We pray that You will bless them, Lord, for their unselfish service in the continual struggle to preserve our freedoms, our safety, and our country’s heritage, for all of us. Bless them abundantly for the hardships they faced, for the sacrifices they made for their many different contributions to America’s victories over tyranny and oppression. We respect them, we thank them, we honor them, we are proud of them, and we pray that you will watch over these special people and bless them with peace and happiness. In Jesus’ name we pray; Amen.
