SERENITY PRAYER God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world

as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen.

    AN IRISH BLESSING

May the blessing of light be with you

    light outside and light within.

May sunlight shine upon you and warm your heart

‘til it glows like a greater peat fire.

May the blessing of the rain the sweet soft rain

fall upon your Spirit and wash it fair and clean.

May it leave a shining pool where the blue of

REFLECTION ON EPIPHANY The Magi were led to Christ by the Light of a star. But they saw the star only because they were not afraid to travel in the dark. The fact is, we cannot see the stars in the bright light of day, but only in the darkness of night; and the darker the night, the brighter they shine. In a sense, all of us are nighttime travelers. However, we need no longer fear the darkness, because with the coming of Christ a Light has come into the world, a Light that shines in the dark, a Light that no darkness can overpower.

SEEK THE LORD The Epiphany reminds us that the true Christian may spend a lifetime searching for Jesus and in the end will find a humble, gentle Savior. He can be found among the poor and the oppressed and not in the palaces of kings. Like the Magi, we must leave the security of the good life and look for Jesus among the poor and broken of the human race.

    JUST FOR TODAY SUGGESTIONS

Just for today: Be friendly and pleasant to all you meet, try to focus on the good in every situation, do all you do to the best of your ability, find something to praise in another rather than criticize, be grateful to be alive.

Just for today: Don’t complain about anything, don’t compare yourself to anyone else, don’t curse or use foul language, and don’t gossip.

Just for today: Let another’s opinion be more important than your own, try to include others in conversation, reach out to relieve another’s loneliness or pain.

Just for today: Take the time to visit Jesus in prayer; listen carefully to what He says to you and allow your conversation with Him to revisit you throughout the rest of your day and night.

Just for today: Start small, pray big, stay steady, trusting that the course of all of our tomorrows will be well-directed and generously graced.

  • FOLLOWING THE STAR…

At the beginning of a new year, I am always reminded of this very wise thought: “I said to the angel at the gate of the year: ‘Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.’ And he replied: ‘Go out into the darkness, and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than the light, and safer than a

    known way.’ ”

The new year has just begun, and we hardly even realize it. Tomorrow, Monday, the school resumes again, and as is natural, everyone will be involved in the routine and activities of one more week. It seems as if nothing has happened, that everything continues as before. Yet it is true that the beginning of another year is a new opportunity, and a good reason to give thanks to God for the gift of life…of each day. It is also an invitation and challenge to achieve new goals, to make better decisions, to change harmful attitudes, and to rectify mistakes of the past.

During these days, I am reflecting on all my personal expectations, resolutions and goals. I also think about our families and the events they are expecting: a new baby, a graduation, a new job, a wedding, a new house with new neighbors and friendships….Many beautiful things can happen. But others are also possible, something we would rather not contemplate, something unforeseen: the loss of a loved one, a divorce, an infirmity, an accident….

In the face of so many possibilities and uncertainties, fears and doubts, today, on the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord, I invite you to put your hand into the Hands of God. Walk in the light of the star, which is God. Follow the unknown path through the New Year with the same faith of the Wise Men of the Orient. After they witnessed its brilliance, they heeded the call of God, trusting in the One who would guide them. Their desire of finding Him motivated them to continue their journey.

May the Light and the Word of God guide us in this year of 2013. May we all try to make this a good year, one in which we become more holy, happy and healthy. This is my wish for you, and my prayer.

    Sunday’s Message Matthew 2: 1 - 12

    PastorPastor’’s Notess Notes

Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! Your light has come, the glory of he Lord shines upon you.

    — Isaiah 60:1

Magi from the East arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage”.

We rejoice this day as we celebrate the fact that, in Jesus Christ, the light has come! In a world marked by darkness of terrorism, war, and injustice, we boldly proclaim that Jesus Christ, born of the Blessed Virgin Mary, has the power to overcome this darkness.

This can sound too far off, too remote for those of us who gather in this church week after week. Yet we are called, in our own situations, which can often be marked by conflict, to welcome Christ, the light, into our hearts, marriages, families, neighborhoods and parishes.

As we read the story of the Magi’s visit to Bethlehem, let us pray that the light of Christ will radiate from within us to change our own lives and radiate out to change the world. We have in this coming week many opportunities to allow Christ’s light to shine forth.

(Jn, 8,12)

DICHOSA, TU, MARIA Dichosa tú, que has creído y has amado.
