On the Exaltation of the Church of God

"And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord\s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow into it,"

—Isaiah 2:2

The above prophecy refers to Christ's Church. Of course, as in all prophecies of the Old Testament it was given in the mystery of shadows for the Jews before Christ. For us today it is revealed and is made absolutely clear especially in the light of Christ^s Transfiguration. The mountain, or heights of the Lord's house is established in the top of the mountains—in the heights of Heaven—for the Church of Christ is primarily not of the earth but of Heaven. This is realized in our understanding of the concept of Church Triumphant and Church militant.

The Church is 'exalted above the hills'. It is above all earthly dimensions. Human philosophy, art, ethnic cultures, and all earthly heights are seen only as foothills below the distant heights of the Church of Christ. The Church would have no trouble in creating these earthly heights. However, not one of them alone, nor all of them together in the passage of time would be able to create the Church. That had to be done by the "Perfect Man and Perfect God".

Then the Prophet says, "All nations shall flow into it". Prior to the coming of the Messiah there was no flow of any nations into any body until Christ established His Church. So on the birthday of the Church (Holy Pentecost) three thousand people were baptized after hearing the Word of God preached. This trend continues to the present day. Why? Because the Holy Church has from that first day "invited all people to follow Christ's command to the Church: "Go forth and baptize all nations, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you" (Mt 28:19). This is the vision from God through Prophet Isaiah.

O wonderful Lord, we thank Thee for making us worthy to be children of Your Holy Church. The Church that is exalted above the Heavens, through Your great Goodness.

"O Lord, it is good for us to be here! "
