We need your help… Saints Peter and Paul’s PADS ministry is looking for additional individuals to take over as the PADS coordinators for the 2021/2022 season.

PADS is a not-for-profit organization in DuPage County that serves the homeless community by providing overnight shelter, as well as many other services. SSPP is one of their host volunteer groups that operates out of First Congrega-tional Church the FIRST Wednesday and Thursday morning of the month, October through May. The coordinator’s role is to supervise and support the SSPP volunteers and the Du-Page PADS paid staff members. For detailed information and to sign up, contact Deacon Joe Verdico at 630-718-2155 or [email protected]. By being part of this ministry, we are reminded that we see the face of Jesus in everyone we meet. Note: While COVID remains a factor, the site will house a maximum of 25 pre-registered guests per night, with most of the volunteer positions having no interaction with the guests. We need a team of people to do setup before the guests arrive at 7pm on Wednesday nights, a team of peo-ple to do cleanup after the guests leave at 7am on Thursday mornings, and a few people who would help a DuPage PADS staff member monitor the site during the overnight hours.

THE DESTINY OF ALL MORTAL FLESH The celebration of today’s feast on a Sunday is unusual on our Roman Catholic calendar. Our observance of the Lord’s Day is held in such high esteem that few other feasts replace it. Occa-sionally there is a feast—usually of one of the saints—in which the saving power of God in Christ is so uniquely focused that the Roman rite deems it worthy of celebration on the Lord’s Day. Today is such a feast. Yet some are surprised at the brevi-ty of the dogma in its entirety: “We pronounce, declare and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma: that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul to heavenly glory.” The Roman Catholic Church never defined any specifics or particulars about the event itself. It is not in the scriptures. There are no verifiable eyewitness accounts. At its core, the dogma reveals in Mary the destiny of all mortal flesh, and reinforces our creedal belief in resurrection of the body. This feast strengthens our faith, defined last week in Hebrews as the realization of things hoped for. We find, in Mary, that realization of what we all hope for, what Paul today affirms: “In Christ shall all be brought to life” (1 Corinthians 15:22).

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic Men’s Fraternal Service Organization founded by Father McGivney. All of the good works we do are informed by our four core principles: Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. The Knights also have an insurance program that has a top notch rating. For more information, please contact our Grand Knight, Larry Pociask, at 630-303-6137 or our Membership Director, Nick Thompson, at 815-871-4218. The Kaycee Cub Hall is available for parties and meet-ings. The Naperville Knights of Columbus meets there on the first Tuesday every month. Contact Al Knoeck at 630-369-2992 for more information. Our aluminum can collection has been a great success. It has provided us the funding we need to support our priests and seminarians. Please continue to drop off your aluminum cans next to the trailer behind the Kaycee Club Hall. The Knights of Columbus is always seeking new members to join our organization. However, the outbreak of coronavirus has presented the Knights with new challenges to our membership recruitment. As a result, the Supreme Council has made it possible for new members to join our ranks via an online exemplification. The First (Charity); the Second (Unity); and the Third (Fraternity) Degrees are now available online, but only on certain days and times. If you have any interest in joining, you can go to the Knights of Columbus website at KofC.org for more information or contact our Membership Director, Nick Thompson, at 815-871-4218.

TRANSITIONAL HOUSING MINISTRY

Thank you for your continued support of our Transitional Housing Ministry (THM) through both your thoughts and prayers, and financial contributions in the PINK Sunday envelopes. We now have all four of our apartments filled again, with a total of four single adult moms, and a com-bined total of seven young children. All of our families are doing very well; the young women are all employed in good jobs and mothers and children are in very good health. We are in the process of helping all families to reduce/eliminate their debt and begin building savings for the future, and prospects are good that all will find perma-nent housing once they graduate from the program. Please consider joining our Ministry and becoming a men-tor. The value that you will add to families in desperate need is tremendous, and the work is personally rewarding. If interested or if you would like to learn more about THM, please contact Tom Dorn at (630) 270-7303 or [email protected].

Saint Vincent de Paul

Mary is the ideal disciple, the model listener. She hears God’s word and acts on it. Mary, as the Listening Disci-ple, lies at the core of New Testament spirituality: all disciples, like Mary, are called to listen to the word of God attentively and act on it. There is almost nothing more important that Mary can teach us than to learn to listen. At root, being a disciple means being a hearer of the word. The whole of Christian life can be summed up in the phrase: “She listened to the word of God and acted on it.” (Maloney, Go! On the Missionary Spirituality of St. Vincent de Paul, p.110-111)

Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of Saint Vincent

de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by

offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder,

Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and its patron, Saint Vincent de Paul. Please call 630-718-2127 to

learn more or to request assistance.

COMMUNION TO THE HOMEBOUND

Homebound visits

are weekly

One of the most rewarding and beautiful ministries at Saints Peter and Paul is the Homebound Communion Ministry. Precautions and guidelines have been put in place to protect our homebound and our extraordinary ministers. If you or a loved one find it difficult to get to Mass either temporarily or on a regular basis due to health issues or disabilities, our Homebound Communion Ministry may be the way to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. If this situation describes you or a loved one, please contact Deacon Joe for more information.
